I am weighing the aftermarket stereo options for my 2003 Disco II S. I came across the following site: http://www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk/acatalog/SHOP_Home_Page_Discovery__2001_on__wit h_Midline_radio_fitted_120.html Are these changers (Alpine CHM-S630 and Sony CDX-T69) 'plug and play' options for my Disco? The site references radio model number DC597/60L; I looked in my manual and it only refers to the radio as model R980. Their radio description ("Radios with small golf ball volume knob"), though, sounds like my unit. |

The 630 is perfectly matched, all the controls work fine. You'll need the adapter which itself is around $70-90, and the CD changer for around $220. I think this is the one LR uses but I'm not sure. Any car audio shop will install it free. Dean

Thanks for the info. I am probably being dense here but is the adapter you mention a LR-specific wiring harness to tie the changer into the wiring under the seat? I looked under my passenger seat and see the brackets for mounting the changer. I also see an unused plug - was hoping this was for the changer and would plug right in (without any sort of adapter). Of course, that would be too easy. |

On an S, there is no wiring harness for the CD changer. You have to run the wiring all the way from the back of the radio to under the seat. Putting the CD itself in takes 5 minutes, installing the blasted harness takes longer. There is an additional adapter that allows the LR wiring to attach to the non-factory CD changer. |

Paul - Thanks for the link. My archive search didn't find this one. Right on point. |

Paul - One question for you. After reading the archives, I see that you used the BlitzSafe adapter and the install outlined on Expedition Exchange did not mention an adapter. So I assume that the factory CD changer is not identical to the Alpine 630? I was under the impression that Alpine made the LR changer and it was identical to 630. |

Dick, I installed the Alpine CHM-S620 and honestly I do not have a clue about the compatibility of the 630. Dean Brown mentioned above that the 630 matches with the use of an adapter. I recommend you contact the folks at www.autotoys.com or even Circuit City for an adapter. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Paul |
