Fearing major transmission damage. Last night I stopped at a drive through, put it in gear to pull to the window and it clunked a little extra loud. Get to the window put it in park, and realized I keept rolling. Try to put it in reverse to get back to the window, bad noises, kinda grindy and no reverse. Turn the truck off try it all again, same thing. Put it in lock and gears engage. So I drove home in lock, check this morning, same thing. rolling in park when not locked, drive and reverse will not engage unless in lock. I smell money ready to leave me. You guys know what's up? Will I be ok in lock for a day or two? Thanks for any help, Mike

Lets do some guessing, Auto box, LT 230 D1?
No drive unless you have the diff locked? or was that low range?

Stopping there to hear more back from you

Its very rare to loose power to one end of the vehicle but thats clearly what has happened.
Get the vehicle to your mechanic....asap
Complete total loss of drive accompanied by nasty noisies will happen momentarily...
Hows the AAA membership?

More tests: I have low range also, but again nothing works without being in lock. what can go wrong to cause this? Is it in the center diff? Transmission? thanks again, AAA was just renewed a month ago.

Can you pinpoint the source of the noise?

Im guessing that you had one of several things go wrong...not related to your t-case or transmision.

broken diff, broken axle, broken drive shaft or u-joint. If you had a problem with your t-case or transmissoin it wouldn't matter if you are in lock or not.
