When you're driving, the air flow past the vehicle creates an area of low pressure inside and under it. This is why they tell you never to drive with a rear window only open, as the low pressure will pull the exhaust gases into the car. Race cars use 'ground effect' stuff to use this to pull the car down into the track. When a rover's automatic corrosion protection system is activated, the low pressure pulls the oil upwards, as well as back from the air flow. Don't forget, also, that anything that hits the spinning driveshafts goes everywhere. |
