I'm sure someone has but the search brings up nothing. I already wired in the front and rears by bypassing the amp (could not get rid of hum otherwise) and now I need to add an amplifier for my sub. Any ideas on how to get the power wire through the firewall? I will mount the amp under the passenger seat, then run speaker wire back to the sub. The remote wire and RCA's are not a problem. That's the easy part, but figuring out the best way to get the power through the firewall is the tough part. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated it!!!

Oh - I also need to know the best ground near the front passenger side.

Thanks again.

Hey Kevin,

I have a Kenwood 1000 Watt amp in my truck. I ran 8 gauge through the firewall hole under the left of the drivers side (where there usually is a hole on most cars). My 8 gauge fit through fine, and I still had some room to spare. I also have 2 sets of fog light wires going through the same hole too. Let me know if you need any help.

Eric

Alright, I was hoping that I could go on the other side. I guess if I have to use that side I will.

Hey Kevin,

There could be a hole on the passenger side. I have never run anything from that side. Just take a peek behind the glovebox. If you really want to through the passenger side, just drill a hole and put rubber grommets to weather-protect the new hole. Pretty easy and simple.

there is a hole in the passenger side firewall behind the glovebox on the D2.

I used that hole to run the power cords to my CB radio.

i wired my radio to the factory amp. all you do is use the factory plug for power ground ignition etc. then you need two set of RCA cables. there is a harness with two grounds and 4 colors. this si the harness that goes to the amp. two common grounds for left/right and four for the channels. you splics the rca caBLE such that the positive goes to one color and and do the same to another color, then use the negative and put them both together and selct one of the factory grounds. do the same with the other two colors and one ground. you may have to test for which wire is which speaker but ultimately it doesnt matter. i also suggest an inline noise suppressor. these can actually be purchased with the RCA jacks already on them.

dont resuse the factory harness for the 8 speaker wires at all. then no need for an amp.

i bought a used kenwood head unit with CD with a 47W x 4 rating (doesnt matter because you are using low level outputs to factory amp). the only downside is the volume controls on the dash panel behind the steering wheel dont work. who cares, never used them anyway.

Regarding the firewall access - the easiest thing to do is pop the hood and look @ the firewall from the engine side. There's plenty of unused grommeted holes there!

Ran 4 guage down passenger side. No reason to run across the engine compartment. I ran it down passenger side and put amps in the back. Ran 8 guage to my two amps off a distribution block. For ground just take out a seat bolt and use an eyelet and put it there. Otherwise scratch a place and use a screw and screw to floor.
