The exhaust bolts on my '94 Disco that connect the downpipe to the manifold loosen and fall off with regularity. I torque them to spec, am afraid to go to far beyond for fear of snapping off the studs. They regularly loosen, and tell me when they've loosened or fallen off by the tell-tale "tick-tick-tick" from the exhaust. Any one else have this problem? Any ideas on how to get them to stay on? I assume thread-lock is not an option due to the heat. Possibly a second jam nut? |

Mine has a thin metal plate ("keeper") that bolts between the manifold & gasket. The plate has a tab that you bend up flat against the side of the stud head after tourqueing, which stops them vibrating loose. After replacing the engine mounts the apprentice (least thats who they blamed) forgot to replace the "keepers" on one bank & the "tick-tick-tick" started within a few weeks. Only cost a few $ from LR & no problems since. Good luck |

Oops sorry, they are actually "c" shaped plates that sit between the head of the stud & the manifold, not sure of their technical name but the guys at LR soon found the part no when I described it to them. |

Are you using new bolts/nuts? The $$$$ ones from the dealer have nuts that are locknuts, so they don't back out. If you are reusing your old nuts -n- bolts try getting some new ones from the dealer. |

There is actually a factory "fix" for this - the D2's have a different bolt retention system that can be retrofitted to a D1 Bill |
