A screw fell out of the bracket for the glove-box latch the other day so I removed the glove box door to replace the screw. Behind the door I found a wierd wire. It is similar to an antenna wire (ie. coax with a plastic insulator inside of it), but about half the diameter. It's not the antenna wire - I identified that one. This wire is NOT attached on one end. The other end goes to a little plastic box (relay?) mounted next to a bunch of similar boxes. The wire is about 3 feet long and the last 10 inches (on the end not attached to anything) is stripped off down to the internal insulator. Any ideas? Thanks. Mike g. |

Is it white? If so - you may be describing the remote locks antenna, but it is only about a foot long or so? Other than that - not certain. Bill |

Is it the wire for your glove box light? |

Mark, that was my first thought - that I had pulled it loose myself. But no, the wires are still in place for that. Bill, that's a very interesting idea indeed! The wire is black (like cable tv coax, but smaller) for about a foot then the outside insulation is stripped so it is white for another 10 inches or so. Also has an odd little copper-like knob at the very end. Sounds a LOT like an antenna! This is even more intriguing in that my factory alarm quit arming itself from the remote control the very next day (see my post asking about re-programming the remote after battery replacement). I'll have to experiment with the seeming coincidence and see if perhaps that is the antenna wire for arming the alarm. I'll let you all know if I can draw any conclusions. Thanks! |

Hey Mike, I believe Bill is on target. My keyless remote malfunctioned and as I was troubleshooting looking for some type of relay, I located the same type of wire that you described behind the glovebox. I followed the wire up to a connection behind the glovebox and found that the other end was just like a radio antenna with a male plug. I inserted it in the female connector and my keyless remote worked. So, that is my story. Sorry for a long explanation. Oh yeh, I dropped my remote a few days later and it no longer works. |
