I just noticed that my 94 disco brakes fade (nearly go out) and make noise when turning. Antilock has came on a couple times in the last few months but never stays on for long. Any ideas. gordo |

Sounds like an ABS sensor problem. If the ABS is kicking in (pulsating, pump noise, etc) under normal road conditions, you haver a sensor problem. Either a bad sensor, our one out of adjustment. Reseat all of them and try it again. If no luck, unplug power to ABS pump until you get problem looked at or you could be without brakes when you need them most. Also - due to the fact that they go out when turning - I would check your wheel bearings for play and also endloat of axles. The exciter ring for the sensor is on the CV joint, which can move back/forth out of range if the wheel bearings are exceptionally bad or the end float is way off - both cases would have to be extreme for that to happen though and I think you'd have noticed other steering problems. Thanks for the help. My experience with rovers is mostly from my 89RR. Do you mind telling me how to reseat the ABS sensor. I think it is the right wheel since it is most prominent in right turns. I cant make it do it every time so I think it must be a sensor. Thanks gordo |

Also it seems to be a low speed issue only. Gordo |

I have a 95, I think that there is a problem with the caliper seals for that year (and yours too), they leak. My left front was definitely leaking, my right one was on it's way. I am replacing both calipers, check to see if yours are leaking. It does not take much to make them fade. I thought it was because they were below tolerance and needed new pads etc. You can get rebuilt calipers from the online parts houses. |
