I have just replaced the track rod, steering stabilizer, and all four of the steering ball joints on my '97 D1 (the steering wheel is straight). I want to set the toe-in/out. I know the proper procedures and measurements, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had any special advice, tips, tricks, etc that they might share. This is my first time to do this myself. Thanks in advance. Brian

No tricks - just 1/8" toe out. Should be very easy since your track rod will turn freely with the new joints installed. Bill |

I have a couple of pieces of threaded rod that have couplers to connect them and couples on the end to adjust. I use teflon tape so that the couplers do not turn too freely. The 2 pieces of rod are cut to nearly the distance between the front wheels and the couplers allow you to adjust to get the exact distance. I measure the rear and then adjust the front to be slightly farther. On my D1, it states 0-2mm TO in the manual. I found that measuring on the tire was not accurate enough, same for the "string" method. |
