Should you lubricate the engine accessories (alternator, PS pump, A/C, etc)? If so, how? I would consider spraying some oil in occasionally, but I don't really know....

I don't think it hurts anything to spray a little WD40 on whatever has a bearing occasionally...

hmmm wd-40?? I think if you were wanting to spray something in those areas with bearings I would go withsome aerosol Tri-Flow, I think it has better lubricating ability than WD-40. FWIW.

Don't use wd-40 to lube anything!!!!It is to displace water not to lube. It will wash off what oil is on there and then dry out.

I was considering trying to inject decent oil or grease into where the bearings would be, rather than a quick spray of WD40. But I dunno if any of the accessories have convenient locations or even oil points. I suspect that 99% of the time when accessories break, its because of such bearings.

Yeah, Bills right... I used Honda chain lube... The stuff is thick enough to coat things without dripping out and drying up. Plus it usually comes in a big can that goes a long way.

You should be able to find it at a Lawn Mower or bike shop. Same thing they use on motor cycle chains.

I tend to agree with Bill too. I have had friends completely destroy cranksets on bikes because they used wd40 around the crankset. It penetrated the crankset and out comes all of the grease. Eventually you have no great and the crank is ruined. As a result I try to keep wd40 clear of bearings.

When ever you have greasey hands, spray WD-40 on them. Works better than Go-Joe. But, it dryes your hands out. I don't think I would use it as a lube.

Dont spray anything in the alternator...the bearings in it are sealed and all you will do is make a mess.

I used to have a pretty high up position at GT Bicycles and WD40 was a sponser of our BMX and freestyle teams. What a joke...we would never use that crap on a bike! For the right about of $$$ we would run the logo and stickers though...;-)

Will, I think I'd rather have greasy hands then smell like WD-40! ;)

Dean,
I feal that lubricating (servicing) the engine accessories (Alternators, PS pumps, A/Cs etc) should strictly be left to some one who has the Knowledge and capability.
When I do any work on my Disco I use a rule of Thumb,( With my knowledge and capability am I Servicing or Tampering)

As if the cancer from used oil is not enough...spraying WD40 on your hands to clean them can olny help get that crap into your blood stream....
