I have to get my '96 Discovery smog checked today or tomorrow in the Whittier (LA County) area. Although I've been living in the States a few years now, this is still a strange experience for me and the first time I've done it to this truck. I've heard that some places can't do permanent 4wd vehicles, and that this may actually be a blessing in disguise as they may not test them as stringently, although I imagine this loophole must be closed by now. Are all the places pretty much the same, or do they vary widely by price, honesty, willingness to "help out" their customers, etc.? Does anybody have a recommendation of where to go? Thanks a lot, - Andrew Clarke. |

I recenty had to do a 'test only' on my 93 RRC. The station told me that they were not required to do the rolling road thing because it was 4WD. I guess they didn't notice that my front propshaft was out at the time Anyhow, it passed without any issues. SC |

I wonder if that's all shops, or if some shops have the capability to do that test. |

Andrew, In Encino and Reseda there is a place called Simply Smog, the owner is a rover nut. If anything you can check out hos rangie and listen to him rant about rovers while he is doing your test. Peace Ron |

I just had my "other" truck smogged at an official test station. I asked about the set-up for 4WD vehicles. He said that the rolling test was not required 'til Oct. 1st. Many smog shops still need to install the rollers. |
