Hi - just registered and am in need of help. I searched the archives and couldn't find anything on this topic. I have a 2000 discovery that recently had a rock break the left headlight. I was wondering if replacing it was something easy that I could do or if it is something that needs to go to the dealer. Also, if it is an easy task please let me know what I need to do and any good parts houses for a replacement. Thanks- |

Craig, This is a very easy replacement. Remove the black plastic access above the headlight. Looking down, you'll see the back of the headlight and three "locating sockets" which look kinda like a three-sided knob w/ a tab attached, and a slot in the metal located just beside the tab. Just rotate each locating socket until the tab lines up with the slot in the metal, and the headlight can then be removed. You'll need to push back the rubber boot to disconnect the elecrical lead for the headlight and the smaller side lamp. From what I can remember, that's pretty much all there is. It's a 20 minute job, and you can get Genuine LR headlamps for around $65.00 on the 'net. I heard the dealer quote $178 to replace one. I've used www.roverconnections.com with good success. Here's a pic of the "locating socket" and the tab you'll need to line up w/ the hole as you rotate the socket.
