OK, I will try this again since my question was buried within another thread.

I am going to replace my bushings on the 97. So I must ask all Discoweb-ers, if you have bought the Bushwaka tool set-13,
A- would you consider selling it?
B- would you consider loaning it for a fee?

I want to get this accomplished in one day instead of transporting limbs back and forth to a shop for pressing in and out.

How about it?

if you "wheel" in the truck, i would just buy one, chances are this won't be the only time you will be replacing these bushings.

for what its worth most mechanics won't lend out their tools. not trying to brush off your post, but most prize the tools over their children.
think of it as an investment?

I made a tool myself for installation/removal of frame bushings for a Series vehicle. Haven't tried it on the Disco yet.

Anyway, I took a pointed .401 Parker shank tool (air hammer) and welded a cheap 1/2" drive socket to it that was just a tad smaller than the outer diameter of the bushing. Chuck into the air hammer and lay into it. I could install bushings in about 2 seconds, removal took a bit longer.

Then again, some won't budge without major persuasion. Carried the panhard rod into a friend's shop where he used his 20 ton press to break it free. I could see it building up pressure and was cringing, waiting for that cannon-shot I knew was coming eventually. When it eventually broke loose with a cataclysmic bang, it scared *everyone* in the whole shop.

Good luck!

Bruce, I used a super heavy duty ball joint press.clamped down tight in my bench/vise.I rented it from autozone. i liked it so much that i kept it.I changed every bushing on my 97 D1 with it. You are welcome to try it out.I live in Orlando. your not far from me. Hell, you sent me the rover manual on cd! we can meet somewhere on I-4 or on a trail, even better! let me know how or if i can help.

David, I have to make a trip to Orlando on Friday, 9-19, all the way to Maitland Blvd. I will be busy until 2:00PM, then heading back to Tampa. Would this be a good time for us to link-up? I can return the press when you come to the Fall Rally in Mid-Oct. You are attending I hope?

Did you use Poly or Vulc-rubber bushs?

Thanks for the offer.
Bruce

bruce, sorry for the delay.Friday is fine with me my schedule is flexible so we can meet up when you are free. and YES i will be at the fall rally! so no worries. I went with poly bushings.the ones i put in were blue. i believe they were made by bearmach(sp)i think i got them through D.A.P . not too soft not too hard. just riiiiggghhhttt. I have used poly bushings for years on my other trucks and when i had strange noises coming from my D1, after installing some OME HD's i didnt even think twice, I went straight for the polyurethane. It's been 8 months since i installed them and still going strong.
