I have a factory push bar on my 98 D1 and wanted to add some sort of front recovery points. How should I go about doing this?

You can't use the factory brush guard for recovery work. Its not strong enough

needing some recovery points eh?... Is this because you're planning on doing some offroading?
IMHO, Jate rings are the least expensive way to go
So were you also planning on keeping the plastic on the front of your vehicle?

CJ - I have a 98 Disco with brush bar as well. Get some JATE rings. I've mounted them on mine and they work well but I wouldn't really try using the brush bar for recovery. Those little eyelets aren't the best especially if it's a serious recovery. The bar will bend into your truck if it gets yanked hard enough. There are a couple spots you can mount the JATE rings to depending on whether you have a skid plate or not but that's what I would use if I were you.

Where can I mount the JATE rings. I don't have a skid plate. I didn't think the skid plate was strong enough, but I just didn't see any other spots to mount them.

Hi
This has been hammered to death in the archives.
Take a look at http://www.landroverstuff.com/jaterings.htm

Or do a search under jate rings

Pete

The problem is mounting them with a stock push bar, I didn't see that hammered to death in the archives.

CJ - if you look on the passenger side of the frame a little further back you'll see a tube welded onto the frame. There's one on both sides but the driver side has steering linkage in it. The passenger side should be empty so you can mount the JATE ring there. If you didn't have the brush guard, you could have mounted the JATE rings up front where you've currently got the brush guard mounted but that's not an option to you at this point (same problem I had except I have both brush guard and skid plate so not many options left).

CJ - You're welcome. Also, I just wanted to add that if you're going to mount JATE rings for front recovery, you may want to consider cutting/removing that air dam. If the situation arises where you need to be recovered, that strap may wreck your air dam or yank part of it off...plus it looks cooler too without the air dam. :-)
