I just ordered a snorkel for my Discovery Series I from Rocky-Road Outfitters. I checked the tech files and didn't see anything on how to install a snorkel for a DI. I know it will come with directions, and a template, but has anyone documented exactly what they have done during installation? It should be here thurs. or friday, and i am curious if anyone could loan a word of wisdom or a step by step of directions. Thanks.

I installed my snorkel on my D2. Direction came with it and it was very easy. Just make sure the template is lined up correctly, and you have enough silcone sealant.

Garret, there is a thread below discussing the install. After I installed mine, 97, I learned an important lesson from the thread. Look below and seek the nuggets of wisdom.

Bruce/Rick,
Did either of you order your snorkel from Rocky-Road Outfitters by any chance? I noticed they have theirs for sale at $259.00 (the lowest i've seen.) Just curious if anyone has done any business with them or not.

Garrett,

Take a close look at template when it arrives. My head tech said the template was actually 3/8" off. Thankfully, mine was not the first snorkel install that he had done - so he was able to see that it was off and he made the neceessary corrections in advance.

My template being off may have just been a "fluke", but thought I would mention it just in case.

Good Luck, Jamie

Luke,

Original trip date had to be post poned, much to my disappointment.

However, the blow was softened by the labor rate the president of my dealership decided would be used for completing the rest of the work to be done on my rover. He offered this as compensation for not having my rover completed by the date that I had planned to leave for the west. They called the very next day to pick up my rover and gave me an '03 loaner for free.

They've had it for almost 3 weeks now and techs are taking their time working on it to make sure that all of it is done with precision. I can't tell you what great techs I have, I mean they REALLY CARE about the quality of their work. They also have experience in driving extreme terrain which is a great help. One of my techs just returned from the TREK event that Land Rover held on the Forbes ranch in Colorado (he brought me stickers!! :-) ).

I made the decision to be nice to myself by NOT planning departure dates UNTIL MY ROVER IS DONE. Disappointment was ouchy and I don't want to feel that again!! :-) :-)

My dogs are chomping at the bit to get out again too. I was tempted to cover the loaner with sheets and take them to the dealership with me yesterday -- but, I decided that they would not appreciate all the sheepdog fur!!

I will keep you posted, but I am careful about what pics I post. You can't even imagine how many stickers I have plastered all over my rover -you would not even want to see the back end of it - it's the biggest pig pen sticker mess that you can imagine. Oh, well...

Nothing wrong with expressing yourself through stickers. I do have one more question though, buried the '03 Loaner in that Florida mud yet?

Garret,
Nathan was my source. Although a little more expensive than others for this item, his service is what counts when and if issues arise.

No mud for 03 loaner, it's just hanging out in the garage.

The 03 has a unique feature to it - every once in a while, I'd hear this beeping sound and just decided that the onboard GPS was recalculating position or something, so I just ignored it.

Then, I noticed that the beeping was only going on when I was in reverse, and the beeps were closer together when I got closer to something. I asked if it does anything special at point of impact, was told that it turns into one solid long beep at impact.

The "cheery" beeping is easy to ignore -- I wonder if the volume or tone can be changed to sound more "warning-like"? I wonder where the sensors for it are? You never get a manual with the loaners. It really is a pretty cool feature, I wonder if it beeps if someone is about to hit you in the rear??
