Well, it looks as if isabel might be threating the NC coast so I need to make sure my disco is ready for the impending high water that is sure to come. (I will likely head down to Jacksonville, NC to help my family out as they have property right off the New River).

From my reading on the archives, the D2's have breathers for the front diff and trans already run the bottom of the windshield?? Is this correct? So it looks like I will really only need to extend the rear? Apparently sealing the factory hose connections with silicone is prudent as well.

Where have the D2 folks exited the rear diff breather extension. Will 1/4" air hose be suffient?

Any insight or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

1. The Rear diff is most vulnerable. Extend it temporarily through one of the rear seat bolt holes, or drill a new hole and seal it with silicone.

2. The ftont diff is as you say, breather ends up near top back of engine compartment firewall near windshield, on drivers side (USA).

3. T-case also has a similar breather, on passenger side.

4. The transmission (T) breather is fucked up. The tube runs up to where the others end, and then heads back down again to end just about where it comes out of the T. How this helps I hae no idea. But its supposed to be a safety issue in case the T overheats and expels the fluid onto the hot engine, as its quite flammable. I would fix this by cutting it just passed the loop up top, and instead of letting it return to the T, go into a wider pipe like 1/2" copper that's not sealed (but will provide a downward exit for any spewing fluid).

HD sells polypropylene tubing about 1/8" i.d. for like $1.30, and brass connectors. Check the hole on the existing tubing and make sure what size it is. The rear diff reather is easy to get to for measurements of tube size.

Do not run the breather into your cargo area or anywhere inside your truck unless you like the smell of hot gear oil! aka sulfur. Also don't allow any dips in the line, fluids could pool in the dips and cause a pressure buildup that'd have to escape through a seal.........

Not sure what year DII but LR has a bulletin on a rear axle breather tube extension kit. Some of the 02's and all of the 03's have it from the factory. The best thing is that they will install it free if you are still under warranty. The extension runs the breather up to about the middle of the LH tail lamp. You will have to mention that you have had water in the rear diff in the past and you know LR has a TIB out for the problem.
