check engine or service engine?
check engine is fault codes-either an OBD II reader or disconnecting the battery will do it (depending on model year).
see tech for service engine light procedure.
cheers,
carl

You don't want to disconnect the "Check Engine" light. You need to find out which code is triggering the light, then fix the problem. The Check Engine light does not always mean that there is a serious problem, but you definately want to find out which code you have so you can take appropriate action. The 'Service Engine" light on the other hand is just a timed reminder.

The check engine light like other warning lights are there for a reason. Disconnecting it only allows you ignore the problem and let what ever caused the light to kick on to continue and cause more problems.

like Axel said, you need to scan it and find what caused the light to come on, fix the problem and then clear the codes with a scan tool.
