Can somebody tell me how wide the Discovery II is from gutter-rail to gutter-rail? D2's are wider than D1's right? Thanks |

John, A D1 rack will mount on a D2, and vice-versa. The D2 rack on a D1 is long, and almost overhangs. The D1 rack on a D2 is short, and doesn't cover the roof. In town, there are both cases, a D1 w/ a DII rack and a D2 with a D1 rack. Both owners are happy. The DII owner feels that the D1 rack provides him with a space to mount his hilift without it sticking out too far; the D1 owner feels that his D2 rack offers extra protection for his roof from limbs. Personally, I like D1 racks on a D1 and D2 racks on a D2, but if you happen upon a good buy for the other type and are in need of a rack and are on a tight budget, I wouldn't hesitate. FWIW.... -L |

Not off the top of my head for sure, but, I have a ballpark guess... the increase in the total length in the D2 over the D1 is about 7 inches, but I can't definitively say that that would translate to a 7" increase in the length of the roof. I'll try to remember to measure a roof of a D1 vs. a D2 next time and see if it is 7" or not... I expect it is a little less, maybe closer to 5", but, wouldn't be surprised if it's not... FWIW.... -L
