This is an update from the thread 95 D1 not running again. Well it turn out that the distributor was out 180 degrees. Me and my dad set it back, but it turn out that it keeps moving out and it does not run right. Very rough idle and black smoke when it first started. Does anybody know where I can get a rebuild kit. Maybe local auto parts store. One more thing the temp gauge does not work anymore.

I had this problem on an Alfa Romeo. Check the clamp the holds the distributor in place it's probably out of round. You can wack it with a hammer and anvil to help it close better, or get a new clamp.

Is that on the outside. What I need is the little plastic piece that goes on the inside. To find it take the rotor off and look down. Does that piece hold the shaft down. I don't really know.

There is a rebuild kit on Atlantic British site. Also make sure the air gap is set correctly. 180 degrees out is an easy mistake. Been there myself.

Make sure your ignition timing is correct.

Marlin, I was speaking about the mount on the outside, there should be a fork shaped clamp/mount at the base of the distributor that bolts on to the engine block, if it's gone that's your problem. I'll check my factory manual to see about the plastic piece and let you know.

The clamp seems alright because it holds the distributor down after I tighten it. I put a speed washer on I think that is what its call, and it didn't work because its not starting. The good thing is the shaft stays in place now.

I am assuming you have seen this post (below). Otherwise I am tapped out, it might be time to call a pro mechanic, or replace the distrubutor.

Our problem was with the rotor and gear. When the rotor was pulled off we didnt hold down the sproket under it. Doing this made the springs on the inside come apart.
