Disco 3.5 V8i '90... Think I know what this probably is, but wondered it anyone could help me diagnose and confirm it, or help pinpoint the problem. Engine takes a little longer than normal to start, then feels a rough until it's been revved well. Starts running roughly again after coming to a stop at lights. Loosing *lots* of coolant. No signs of overheating, even in hot weather and sat in traffic. On tickover it seems fine, but as soon as I rev to set off I manage to create clouds of steam :-( the longer I sit ticking, over the worse the steam is. It's obviously steam rather than smoke. Doesn't appear (or maybe it just dissapates quickly) to 'steam' when it is under normal running. I'm pretty certain (I think - anyone confirm?) that I'm looking at head gasket or cracked head but what do I do to confirm this and find out exactly where the problem lies. Thanks all Matt |

Remove heads, check for cracks, put in new head gasket. Bob's yur' uncle. |

It's probably a headgasket. If it is a head gasket, make sure you resurface the heads when they're off or you may go through this again. While your at it port and polish them for better performance. Could be an intake gasket though. |
