Well, I pulled the oil pan off of my 96 discovery, and there was a big chunk of piston and sleeve in it. So much for that motor. Anybody know where a guy can get a deal on a 4 litre? I guess I will also be needing the overhaul manual. Thanks for all of your help, Mark |

Go with the 4.6 if you are staying with the Gas version, otherwise send in to Maine for the TD5 conversion. |

Any idea how hard it is to put a 4.6 in a discovery? Does it bolt right up, or are there a lot of adapters? Mark |

thanks for the site. I just sent out about 10 emails looking for a block. The 4.6 conversion seems like a good plan. I have of course, very little money to work with, so that would be the only thing to keep me from doing it. I can reuse my heads and intake if I get a new 4.0 block, but I would have to get the entire engine if I found a 4.6, right? Thanks, Mark |

The blocks are the same. So the heads should bolt right on. Any differences, if any, would probably be small and easy to resolve. The only difference between the 4 and the 4.6 is the stroke of the crank if I'm not mistaken. Even if the bore was larger, the heads should work. You would probably need a different MAF and different PROM in the ECU. But you need the advise of someone who's actually done it. |

Seach the archieves, the disco II 4.0 block is about the best deal going. Installing in a GEMS truck is really easy. As far as putting a 4.6 in a GEMS disco you have to do something about the fueling, otherwise a short or long block is a strait bolt in. The claw hammer approach is to put in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I have not done it so take it fwiw. Ron |

Thanks guys. I talked to ECR, and as suspected, they are well out of my price range. I did find a completely rebuilt short block for about 3K in texas. They cant sell just the block, so i will be stuck with a lot of stuff I dont need. I am going to take a look at the archives, and keep looking for a 4.6. Thanks again, Mark |
