A fellow Dwebber' and I were attempting a 30K maint. on my DII last night and had no issues until we went for the plug wires. Needless to say we didn't get very far before our lack of DII specific knowledge and specialized tools got the best of us. Is there any easy way to swap wires? What special tools are needed? Anyone written a tech article on this? Thanks Dweb, -Luke p.s. I tried to search for this topic, but as I am bad at research, I came up with nothing. |

I'll be watching here as well. Changing plug wires was never a problem until I looked at the D2 set-up. There must be a secret to getting those wires down in behind the firewall? Just where do they go? |

We could see where the wires went - behind and under the plenum. None of our fat hands would fit back there, even after loosening the wiring loom across the top of the firewall. joe |

Have to take off the coil pack, why are you changing wires at 30k? Ron |

I was under the impression that the maint. program from LR called for changing plugs and wires at 30K miles (amongst other things). Is this wrong? -Luke |

Hey Luke, You're gonna love this. ...from the LR DII factory workshop manual page 18-77 Coil-ignition "1.Remove upper inlet manifold assembly. see MANIFOLD removal procedure. 2.disconect multiplugs from ignition coil" You've gotta be kidding! Now this is for full coil removal, there is no section for just the wires (that I've found). Hope this helps...if you were closer to NYC I'd give you a hand. Carl |

I appreciate it Carl. While working with Joe M. on the maint., we were joking around that if we saw the manual it would state something to the effect of "remove intake manifold". Now we both know that our sick joke was correct and that the removal of the manifold is rediclous. I'll have to see which is cheaper, driving to NY for help or driving to Westside LandRover in Cleveland for the completion of my maint. issues. I have a feeling that the NY drive is still probably cheaper. -Luke p.s. Maybe we can take the trucks up to the roof top test track |
