looked like some guys were out brodien in the surf in Kitty Hawk, and the wind kicked their white D1 over ... the surf was washing up to it, looking like it might wash to sea... of course the guys reporting on the Weather Channel were using it as an example of what not to do with winds hitting 80mph!

on Hwy.395 in California, there are often strong side winds; at about 45-50 mph, big rigs flip on the side. Disco is still driveable, but barely - it becomes a completely white-knuckle ride.

Hwy.12 in Outer Banks runs alongshore, and now all the wind is squarely broadside. I seriously doubt a Disco can remain upright for long at 80-100kt side wind - let alone be driven.

A guy posted a message on the rangie.com board yesterday, wondering where to find the drain plug on his truck. He'd never forded anything before, but he was going to play in the hurricane.

Unfortunately, most of these idiots survive to pass on their genes.

Just got power to power up the PC here in E-City a few hours ago. Over all, My house did well. We lost most of our shingles and some vinyl siding but no leaks. Flooding never reached the house but came very close. Most of the houses around me had more damage. Everything from trees through the roof to the roof blown off and flooding in their houses. Downtown Elizabeth city was an even bigger mess with the down town area 4 to 5 feet under water most of the day. Power is expected to be out until Monday. Somehow I still have a working phone line and water presure but, most others don't have water. I'm happy to only need to replace the roof with no structural damage.

Drove the Rover around town today and yes the snorkle came in handy just to get to the north end of town. The water was door handle deep in some places but was short sections and thankfully drove though and out quickly enough that water never leaked enough to wet the carpets.

Funny thing. Opening the doors to move the truck out of the debree path several times during the storm caused enough mosture to enter from wind driven rain to wet the head liner. Now the head liner is separating and sagging where the rear sunroof would be. Other than that, a few scratches from debree on the roof but no dents.

I went in the rover several times during the hight of the storm to listen to the Ham radio and the winds were at a sustained 80+ to 100 Mph according to the Coast Guard station transponder with gusts up to 130 Mph. AT that time I moved the truck around to the other side of the house to block the wind because the truck really felt like it was going to be turned over by the wind if I left it in the driveway. I mean, it tilted at least 30 degrees several times while I was sitting in it when the gusts hit from the side.

O well, all is well here for now.

Peace out.

GG
