Ok...
ok guy's I have a '96 disco and I've done as much as I can and still adding when the money allow's me.
I live in Central Florida."Itz where the mud iz!"
I just got stuck fer the first time in 2 yrs in my Disco 1.I have the drive line pretty much worked out but what I need to know is about wheel spacers and rim offsets. With out the purchase of new rims how big of a tire can I really run on my Disco with the wheel spacers? and who do you recomend for the product? What I need is more rubber on the ground. What size and model tire should I use?
Now if I should go out 'n buy some "rock crawlers"
rims should I get something with an offset and how much offset is required? again any suggestions on the manufacturer and model?
Thanks fer the help people
Alex

Alex: Can we start with you telling us what you've actually done so far with the truck?
That controls what you can and cannot do tire wise

alex, first thing is to get a winch. if you are getting stuck then it will get you out. save the fluff for after the winch.

not a bad plan to go with the winch, and throw some 245/75's (mud terrains or even some sort of radial bogger) with rock crawlers or stock wheels (shouldn't really matter honestly). This will give you an increased contact patch with a more aggressive tires, a balanced look as far as tire size and lift are concerned, and driving characteristics that are suitable for every day commuting.

p.s. what trails are you running around Orlando?

Spacers:

Are they really worth the money? Are they safe? It seems there would be a problem with enuf bolt thread...

now i finally broke down and bought the Emu H.D. springs and I'm going to replace my rears and switch my med. spring rears up front.
It is not that I do not want to buy a winch but I'm 70% disabled with 19 pieces of hardware in my spine so If I have a wince it does me no good if I'm out all alone so thats why I'm not going to purchase one.The medical problems.
Other wise Ive done now a safari snorkle,GPS,Hi-Lift Jack and accessories, flowmaster exhast.Hella 4000's on my front with 100w. a piece on my bumper and a euro light pod of 4 lights on my hood with 4 hellas with 100 w bulbs.seat covers as well as an eletronic hand gun safe.Various tools, first aid,two way Motorlas for pvt communication from truch to truck,Cb radio and various recovery equipment. My truck just hit 100300 miles so its time to do some major overhaul to replace what ever needs to be replaced and lastly I'm putting on some 265/75/16
swampers or bf goodrich because of the florida mud.
Thanks guys
Happy Trails to You

btw...I forgot to mention that I'm going with either a detroit Locker on the rear and T.T. on my front. This will get me through what I need to go through with the added tire size and 4.10 gears. This is pretty much my 100300 mile rebuild for my suspention.
again thanks...
awi.

I would think your medical condition would be even more reason to buy a winch. How are you going to get out alone when you get stuck? with a winch you just pull the line and hook it up (most of the time anyway). Without it, you might be hooped.

I dont go out alone unless i have a healthy person with me or I know the area very well and know what is ahead of me.Plus,I'm able to do most tasks at hand but its like have'n a 72 year old person doing it.It's what will happen while I'm doing the task at hand that I have to be so very careful about.
It's the pulling the line, squating or kneeling I cannot do at all!(artificial knee)(hardware in cervical spine and harrington rods (lowback)(1.artificial Knee)So if I do this physical stuff something will happen maybe not the first time but it will happen!I've been having to live with this bone problem now going on 15 years now and life is way to short to just sit on the sidelines so I try to do as much as I can do when ever possible...Plus,I dont want the embarrasment of having to call 911 fire rescue because I did not keep with in my limitations.
"A man has got to know his limitations"
So, I own a cell phone,CB,Two way FM,and 10 meter radios so I just make a call and ask for help. And yes sometimes I have to walk and wait but that walk and wait is better than going back into theripy or having another surgery because I put my body into a position that I know that I should not have.Anyway's were not here to discuss my medical condition. So now you all know my situation and why I have not done a winch. So can we go back to the real reason why were all here.
Im doing the HD Emu springs and putting the medium grade Emu's rears on my front.Emu shocks around.Safari snorkle plus the axil breather hoses and any other breather hoses to the snorkle
where its dry.Im going to be doing T.T. on my front and either T.T. on the rear or jus a detroit Locker.(still thing bout it)Im going to run 265/75/16's or 235/85's(still thinking 'n looking) for tires.I've ordered from E.C.R's my wheel flairs and I'll be doing my rear drive shaft as well to rid of the rubber coupling.
I'm trying to save as much $$$ as possible when it comes to purchasing parts for this venture.I will even consider even used parts as long as there in the right condition and right price.
So,I open to any and all suggestions that can possibly help me out with my '96 Discovery 1 SE?
Thank you guys and I'm sorry to have to bore you all with my medical condition, really I am,please accept my humble appologies for the medical stuff.
Well thats it for now,I'm just waiting on my parts to arrive! It's like X-mas in October when my parts arrive.
Happy Trails To You

oh nothing to say now?
So now this is a dead link?
Just think. If you wore my shoes. If you were stuck in my shoes I think that you would pretty much do the same. When u get in a condition like mine people all the time seem to tell people like me that we cannot do these things.
I just dont want to put a winch on my truck.I have no use for it what so ever.
Thats why its called the "land of the free" we have the right to make our own decisions.
So fuck what! I ve got a disability,so with a winch all by my self stuck some where I supposed to ask a passer by to operate my winch?
We have cell phones so we can call fer help and guns fer protection.I really dont mind walking out rather than hurting myself.
I do have the right to go offroading.

That depends on the situation. Whether or not you can operate the winch yourself, is not really the issue. The point is that people are trying to make is that with a winch on your vehicle, there will be more options to recover it in various situations without relying on somebody else's recovery equipment, regardless of who ends up pulling out the cable for you. There will also be more options for you to assist in recovering another vehicle, should the need arise. You may think that you will never need a winch, I happen to disagree. It's one of the most important pieces of equipment you can have on your truck if you go off road regularly.
