Last week, I installed my new OME HD lift and 245-75-16 Bridgestone AT Revo tires. got to love that. (mostly daily driver) Yesterday I installed a new Series 40 Delta Flow Flowmaster muffler and removed the resinatior. Got to love that sound Anyway today I had to drive about an hour away through the mountains of WV. Normally I notice 2 things: 1. Losing power going up 5% grade hills. 2. Auto Shift handle (metal part) gets very hot. Today things were a little differnt. 1. Didn't lose as much power on 5% hills. Took longer for it to lose speed with Cruise set at 70 mph. 2. Shifter handle (metal part) barely got hot at all. So I go to Flowmaster's web site and it says that installing a flowmaster muffler will reduce engine heat. As well as improving mid range power....Well let me tell you I like it. I am glad that I decided to stop at the Muffler shop yesterday. |

Simple the reason is the free flow exhaust. The transmission is surrounded by two very hot catalytic converters. When you put on a freeflowing exhaust you let the engine breath (exhale) better which gets you better performance plus the exhaust has less backpressure which allows the cats flow better and run cooler. I've had a number of customers with the same observation, myself included.

sorry, maybe I wrote it wrong, I was driving up a 5% grade or hill. At least that is what the sign on the road says. 5% grade ahead use lower gear (ok that is what it states going down, I was going up). It just felt like I didn't lose as much speed using cruise control going up the hill as it did the day before driving up the same hill at the same speed. |

Thought I would add the following info, just in case anyone was curious or acually read my post. Found that noise in the passenger campartment is the noisest at 1750 RPMs and gets quieter below or above that level. I also checked my fuel economy. I averaged 15 mpg this last tank. Mind you that is alot of mountain interstate and in town driving, as well as back country roads. |

one questoion would also be "did you recalibrate your speedo for the larger tires?" Because if you didnt, your speedo could have been reading 70 but you were going closer to 80, causing an increased amount of time and hill to slow you down. Just a thought. Also, what kinda tip did you put on? ANy pics? -Luke |

No pics yet, but I will try to take some (trying to talk my wife into a new Digital SLR). As far as recalibrating the speedo it was off by 10% i.e going 60 by speedo I was going around 54. Now with the 245-75-16 speedo shows 60 I am going around 59.5 I checked this via stop watch and mile markers on the interstate....I am very happy. |

I believe all exhaust pipes on 4.0L are 2.25" diameter, with centered on exhaust end of muffler, offset on in-flow side. Someone can confirm? W2 99D1 |

The pipes on the Discos are 2 1/4 diameter. Either the Flowmaster or magnaflow mufflers would be a good choice for the Disco. The Flowmaster series 40 will be louder than the series 50. The one you want is a offset / center muffler. The flowmasters are directional where the Magnaflow can go either direction. As to the insides of a Magnaflow, it is not fiberglass. It is a combination of stainless steel mesh with high temp mesh material that does not blow out like the old glass packs did. I've seen them on cars with over 150,000 miles and still no problems.. Even though Magnaflows are a flow-through design they are surprisingly very quiet. Regardless, either will be a good choice.

Hi, I was looking at the pictures on http://www.texasrovers.com/dual_exhaust.htm and I noticed that the new exhaust pipe (driver side) is very close to the fuel hose. Any concerns with this?

Does the resinator provide any emission control, I live in NJ and they are getting strict with emission controls, I would hate to add this and then have to switch back to pass emission inspection. |

The only thing the resinator is for is to keep the sound in cab down... i.e. you may hear your exhaust in the cab of the vehicle without the resinator. With a resinator installed it is almost like running a second muffler keeps the sould level to a minimal level. When they installed my Flowmaster, I had them remove the Resinator for two reasons: 1) it was looking in pretty rough shape (rusting) 2) I wanted to hear my V8 a little bit in the cab.... and I like the sound. Not chevy 350 with glass packs, but it does sound very good. IMHO |
