John, I had some rubbing on my D1, just going over the drive way curb at home. Before I put new springs and shocks on.(sagging) Still have standard lift but no rubbing. Rear: Pic you can see where I have hit before the new springs and shocks. John,if your springs and shocks are in good order as mine now are.You should be able to run with a set of Piralli Scorpion A/T 31x10.50R15LT as I am.I do a lot of Beach driving and boggy sand track driving getting to the beach and I have no Rubbing.

John, I am assuming that you have stock suspension?? If so, I just put a set of 245/70/16 BFG All Terrains on my 96 Disco. I believe that's about the biggest highth and width you'll be able to put on with out trimming. I can't say from personal experience, but you might be able to get away with 235/85/16s on stock suspension. They might be narrow enough to stuff into your wheel wells with out catching the lip on the inside. One thing I will mention is that when you're comparing tires look at their actual dimensions when looking at sizes. For example I found out that my 245/70/16 BFG ATs are roughly the same size as the stock Michelin 235/70/16s. I don't know why that is. I am sure that tread depth has something to do with the hight variation??? Anyway, hope that helps. Oh yeah, there is a chart in the tech section that should help you with tire size info. |

Hey John im not sure about 245/70's but ive got a D1 w/OME "newer=11months old" MD springs & shocks with factory brush bar, rear swaybar disconnected and RN sliders... i run 245/75/16 MT/R's and they CHEWED THE HELL out of my rear durring a run on some flexi trails. i wish i had cut the rear fender BEFORE the MT/R's did... oh well depending on what kind of suspension and terrain your running you might be able to get away without triming 245's but i wouldnt... as for 235... i'm pretty sure they would make short order of your fenders reallllllly fast as they are even bigger.

I just put on a set of 245/75's on my '97 Tdi. No rubbing yet, dont offroad much so I couldn't tell you for sure, but I'm pretty happy with them so far... stock shocks and springs, considering installing OME Medium duty springs and shocks soon and also their steering damper. Where do ya'll buy? and what online store do you think I can get 'em for less? |

Rubbing typicaly happen when you stuff the tire up in the wheel well, i.e. when the spring is compressed, so putting a taller spring on won't magically make a bigger tire fit. The axle will still move up until it hits the bump stop or until the spring is fully compressed, whichever happens first. - Axel
