I want to replace the plastic radiator cap on my '97 D1 (102K mi) with a brass fitting. I do not want to remove the cap that is there now, break it off, and risk a horror story like I have seen posted on this board sometimes. I have been lucky so far. Does anyone know the size (i.e., 1", 1 1/8", 28MM, etc) and the thread count? I know that these brass replacements can be ordered easily, but I would like to try to be creative and find my own version. If someone could simply give me the specs and/or their experiences, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |

OK then, let me ask this: (1) I believe that the D1 radiator 'cap' is a standard plumbing fitting size. Does anyone know this? (2) If I cannot find a suitable replacement, where is the best place to order a brass cap replacement? Thanks in advance. |

I used a standard 1/2" NPT plug temporarily when mine broke untill I could get a brass replacement ordered. I used plenty of RTV type gunk and it held up fine for a week. Hope this helps. Brent |

I also used a 1/2" brass NPT plug with a square head which I bought from Home Depot (plumbing dept). |
