Okay guys, I'd appreciate your input before i splash the cash on that shiny new D2 front propshaft that my mate just happens to have sat on his workshop shelf. Just replaced the stock springs and shocks with a OME 2in lift. Currently running std wheels and tyres until larger tyres arrive. Rear propshaft (sorry-driveshaft) has already been swapped for a twin UJ set-up i.e non-rotoflex. Immediately after installing suspension i've noticed a minor vibration through the car on overun/deceleration which I'm pretty sure wasn't there before. Only been driving around town since install so the shakes have already appeared at relatively low speeds , still haven't had chance to do any high speed cruising yet. Is this a typical type of vibe? Would i be right in presuming that this is the infamous driveline shakes i can expect with a lifted Discovery? Sorry to bore you guys with 'yet another' driveline vibe question, but lifted Discoverys in the UK are still pretty rare things, so Discoweb has become my main source of info for my own project D1 300Tdi Auto Commercial (van)

Can you tell where the vibe is? Front, rear...? You can do a few things to help determine where the issue is. Remove front drive shaft. Problem still there? Remove rear drive shaft. Problem still there? If one of the above solves problem, get the shaft balanced (might wish to do so while it is off anyway, it is ususally only a few bucks). If neither solves the problem, then maybe you have vibes in both, maybe both are out of balance or maybe the problem is somewhere else. I have heard that worn bushings, bearings and swivel pin preload can all cause vibes. |
