so iwas tearing down the upper half of the motor (3.9 on a 95 D1)and when i removed the rockershaft on the right side there were shims between the shaft and the head they are about 0.014 in thickness. and there were none on the other side. the heads had been done before so i am not sure if someone forgot to put them in the one side or if they even belong there at all.I have never run across this before, shims under the rockershaft to head that is. i have seen plenty of hack jobs. anybody out there no what i am talking about as far as the shims go? |

The shims are to set the lifter pre load. If the heads have been surface ground, some times the preload is to great and the valves ride. You fix this by shimming the rocker posts. |
