As I was leaving for my lunch, I tried to start my Disco, but was completely dead! after I jumped and started it I thought the battery had gone bad. I drove a few block and suddenly the sport mode light and the manual mode light started blinking as well as the "D" on the mileage/gear display!! I stopped on a red light to find out that the engine revolutions were up to 2000 before I started moving!! completely lost of engine power..I think! I went back and turned the engine off..the battery was dead again!! any thoughts? related to the post I put this morning regarding the service engine light issue, last night I removed the side kick panel to try to locate the SES light reset box. since I did not find anything I just put the panel back. is there a possibility that I might have created a short around the wiring located inside the panel?

Looks like it is time to get a new alternator for your disco. Hopefully you have warranty left.

1. There is no SES reset light on the D2

2. A dead battery will cause the transmission concerns due to low voltage. The ECU in the vehicle is designed to work to a 9V threshold.

The OEM battery was crap to begin with. Replace the battery and go from there

Before you change that battery, make sure your terminal connections are clean and tight. Don't ask me how I know this.:-)

Ole Ollie here is correct. If it is dead get something better.

Thanks for the advice guys. indeed, the battery was defective and basically left the car in second gear since I was going slow when the misfire in the computer occurred. when I put the new battery it was back to normal.
