code 48 means stepper motor right? and if so i just replaced it and reset check engine light. ten minutes later code 48 and check engine light on again. could the unit be defective. or could it be something else. or is something shorting out frying the stepper. |

Maybe it is out of range and the base idle is wrong. Or a wireing problem. |

Sounds like a vacuum leak. I doubt wiring but still a possibilty. Base idle shouldn't trip that. Start looking for vacuum leaks under the hood. I would clean out the air plenum real well and re-seal. You didn't mention whether you bought a genuine IAC or not. Some people have luck with aftermarket some don't it's a 25dollar gamble on the aftermarket. |

yup it is from a land rover dealer. and i paid 325.00 for it. but i was thinking that could it be possible that the pointed end is not seating properly and that when it becomes activated that it is burning out the stepper. after replacing it the rover started and i did not get the usual high idle that was happening. you know high revs then settling. but after letting it idle it threw the check engine light again. so a vacume leak will set off the diagonistic reading 48? and if it were a vacume leak would there not be unsual high idle all the time. |

I had that problem with the NAPA replacement, but you said it was OEM. I won't try to replace OEM with NAPA again, not worth the few dollars. The price you paid for OEM sound high, where'd you go? Check out some of the OEM suppliers that frequent this board. Much better prices! Good Luck, John... |

Stepper should be around 125 from atlantic british or such. Usually resetting will cause the vehicle to idle high first few restarts as computer adjusts to new stepper. Vacuum leak will give you an erratic idle. It will drive fine, but will surge when idling and take it from me it will trip code 48 |

o.k. so i guess then i will have to search for the vacume leak. is there any areas that i should look for? besides the usuall hoses and such. and how do i tell if there is a vacume leak? should i spray quick start around the plenum and listen for higher revs? or what will be the best way to find this leak? |

High revs is one way. You can also crimp hoses and listen for a variation of idle. Or you can get them pressure checked. I did the quickstart. I went ahead and took the plenum off and cleaned the buildup out and resealed. Good luck, just takes some time. |
