Looking to install some Hella 4000s on the Disco, a set of Bosch driving lights and a Hella swivel worklight and wanted to know what kind of relay I need to purchase from the local electronics store to make them work properly.

Thanks!

Radio Shack standard 30-amp automotive relays. Also get a decent inline fuse holder from Pep Boys.

The same folks you purchased the Hellas from should have the Hella relay with either a 30 or 15a fuse built in. I used one 30a relay for every 2 Hella 4k's and a 15a relay for my work lamp (twin 55w lamp =110w).

jay, also you can upgrade the bulbs to 130W in the 4000's (they say so in the instructions), and you can still run 2x130W off a 30a relay. Bulbs are $10 each, not a bad investment $ / lumen.

Good God Dean! I couldn't imagine upgrading my bulbs. Damn that's a lot of light.

Thanks guys for the tips I appreciate it!

Trying to get my ---- together so I can go to MAR.

I will investigate the relays at the electronics store.

Dean- that sounds out of control. I think I will see how the stock bulbs perform before going the hardcore route!

Thanks!

The 4K's have 100watt bulbs in them already, so it doesn't make that much difference to go to 130. You can always do that when one burns out later.

Well its 30% more power and about 35% more lumens, for about 10% of the cost, which in my reckoning is a good deal!

If I were to do it again, however, I'd go for the PIAA or IPF super platinums or something similar.

Oh, it's not a big cost to get a couple of 130 watt bulbs, what are they, $12 each at EE? And of course it's a little more power and lumens in theory, but once you figure in a little voltage drop here, some dirt on the lens there and so on, it doesn't make that much difference in real life. But by all means, get the 130 watt bulbs when you need to replace one. I did get them for my cornering lights, but to be honest, the extra 30 watts aren't as noticeable as I thought it would be.

What is the max size you can put in the 3000's?
