I own a '97 NA Disco with 105k miles and have had no major problems since time of purchase ('97). All within a month my engine check light came on and noticed water like vapor coming from the tail pipe under heavy loads (going up hill).

On Friday I had an independent Land Rover shop check out the problem. Later that day I was notified that the head gasket on the driver side was leaking coolant and getting into the combustion chamber which was causing the water like vapor to come from the tail pipe.

My question to the Disco community is how much should this repair cost. I was given a price quote of a $1000.00 which includes new valve cover gaskets, new intake manifold gasket, new timing chain gasket, two new 02 sensors, new head gaskets and some head work (valve guides).

Should I repair the Disco or trade it in? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

For that repair in Ozzie $1000 sound about right.

I would keep it.
I love my 1998 3.9

That's a good price, considering all the oter stuff you are having done...it is quite involved.

Make sure you get NEW head bolts...

I feel the worth of a car (to you) is completely arbitrary, and solely based on your love for it. Cars ain't no stock or homestead that appreciates. You know going in it's a losing proposition, so one better love it!

If you've gone 105K with no major probs, and now you got head work, that's great... is more on the way? I say, invest in some other items during you overhaul and you'll go another 50K miles.

Good Luck

What else should I have done on the heads besides having the valve guides replaced? Please advise...
