I had this problem earlier in the summer; replaced the fuel pump (but I wasn't certain it was the problem). My '96 Disco has been running fine except that sometimes if I'm not paying attention and I turn the key to start the car, I don't keep the key turned until the engine is completely on. It cranks fine, but then I accidentally stop cranking it before it starts. This causes the car to not start up again. It will crank and crank but it doesn't start. This happened last week (once, but then it started after about the fifth or sixth try) and again after work today, and now it won't start.

I got to the fuel pump and it doesn't seem to be getting any electricity to the pump itself (checked w/ multimeter). Could this be an alarm issue? Is there a fuel cutoff for the alarm? If so, where is it??? Where does the fuel pump get its power from? Thanks!

Excessive pressure in cylinders? I had same stuff once, solution was to keep trying (after about 30 mins pause) and pocking gas pedal, so engine would help starter... Just shooting in darkness here..

Further info - I'm not getting any voltage at the fuse box (fuel pump fuse #6), BUT, when I take out fuse #7 ("fuel system"), I hear a clicking sound and then when I replace fuse #7, I briefly (4-5sec) get 12V on the fuel pump fuse (#6). Hmmm....

try your fuel pump relays. dont ask me where they are. I am going through this with my truck its a bitch. your problem could also be related to ECU?
FWIW

I'm thinking ECU, too. Oh well, AAA took it to a local shop for me...I'll find out tomorrow if it is an easy or hard fix. Thanks!
