Ok, so I know this is probably not the best place to post this request, please commence the bashing at your leisure.

BUT, I need to lease or rent an H2 for 3 months, from October through December for my work. I need it for use in CA, AZ, NV, TX. I also need to wrap it to serve as a sponsorship vehicle. I am only asking for an H2 because it is relevant for this promotion with my client.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know right away via email - todd.juneau@active.com

Thanks DWEB!

I'd check with your local dealership. They should have a short-term lease option.

Hmmm, H2, October, CA, surrounding states, and the home state of the current Republican president.

Is this the Arnold victory tour?

Ha, that is funny, I didn't even think about the republican party celebration!

No, this is actually for a sponsor of a sports program. I have tried the local dealers, none of them have had anything to offer. There are a couple of local rental shops, but they want around $2500 per week.

Sorry about bringing it to Texas, it will only be there for about 3 days!

I even volunteered my Disco to be wrapped and used for the promotion, unfortunately with 102K miles and 10mpg, it was not a good option.

Thanks for the suggestions...

Todd, you could try posting on the H2 board (www.h2source.com).

10MPG is about all you will get out of an H2, on a good day with a tail wind you might get 12.

Todd, I saw your post over there. It does not look like you are getting much help. I think your best bet is to have your company buy one used and then sell it when your done.

Yep, we tried the H2source BBS, but mostly got smart ass responses...oh well it's funny and I figured I would be getting that no matter what.

Cost is not really an issue but I wanted to do as much research as possible before I rent one for $15K!

I was really hoping someone out there that owned an H2 as a spare hobby vehicle would rent it to my company for approximately $5K.

I know a girl who works in marketing for the H2 assembly plant in the midwest (Illinois, Indiana?). You could try to contact them...
I know she gets to drive them whenever she wants so they get more publicity! Maybe they have extras!

Todd, try a company such as www.donlleasing.com , although they are on the other side of the map from you, I'm positive there are places out in CA that can hook you up with a short term specialty lease

Steve - I have not called the dealer you emailed me about yet. I will today, also, I am assuming that T.O. means Thousand Oaks.

If you have any other connections other than this dealer, let me know.

Robert - Thanks for the tip. I called them this morning, their minimum lease is for 13 months.

It looks like I will be renting at this point.

How about buying a used one then selling it after the trip? A couple months payments and tag/title/tax might be cheaper than renting depending on where you register it.

Todd, sorry about the way they treated you on H2Source, I should have known some of them would act like children.
I hope you get this figured out.

No worries, it is pretty damn funny actually! I was laughing my ass off in the office reading their replies.

I am just bummed they don't have the same respect as Land Rover owners.

Todd..

I fully concur with Alec...sorry about that lousy treatment on the H2 board. I had not read the thread until you told me about it. I suspect they tried to be cute with you...and then turned on themselves.

You may want to contact Cerritos Hummer, they have some demo models that could possibly work. Another thought, and this could save you a bundle....SCORE borrowed some H2's and thrashed the heck out of them. They thrashed them so hard that SCORE actually had to buy all of them. I don't know for sure who to contact, but they may be willing to let you have one to use cheap?

Give me another email and I can set you up with a guy who knows SCORE and might be able to set you in the right direction.

Hey Steve & Alec,

Thanks for the tips, the folks over at H2source are totally hilarious. I had no idea some people get that devoted to their message boards! What is really funny is that now that I have dislcosed how much I am willing to pay, 2 people have offered their vehicles! I got an even bigger kick out of the fact that they thought I was joking with my offer, becuase I am a Disco owner. What is the deal with that?

I will try Cerritos Hummer and the SCORE guys today. So far the best deal I have found is $14k for a rental.

Paul - I have no idea what the H2's get for gas mileage, but my Disco is getting about 9-10 city and 12 hwy.

Thanks again Steve and Alec for your help. I hope I did not cause you any long-term harassement over there.

Todd you should see the same gas millage as your Disco, my lifetime average is 10.4 (according to the computer). I thought Discos got better millage than that though?

Alec,

Not sure what you have on yours. On my 97D1 with 102K, ARB bull bar, Full size rack, OME lift and 235's, that is what I get.

It did get better mpg before all of the mods, but it sure is a lot more fun now!

Try a Dealership and lease it for 12mos or 24mos,, even though you only need it for 3. It might actually be close to $14K for the longer period, then keep it util it is over. Also a pre- paid lease is normally less than than a month by month because due to everything being paid up front. At least worth a shot!

Todd...

I'll let you use my H2 for $1,000 less then your best offer. Just one thing...I'll have to get my deductibles lowered dramatically and I may insure with a few additional companies before handing over the keys....

So here's the deal...drive as much as you like, do whatever you want...and when your done just turn the keys over to anyone headed to Mexico. And oh yeah...best not pull over for any cops. :-)

Oh yeah...avoid driving near Sherman Oaks...there may be some sniper fire here and there.

Paul....neat video, but how come the hill looks so flat, tame and mild? Don't ya hate the way video & pics deplete the dimensions of the terrain?

Sus,

Yes I did, thanks! I sent some info over to the Hummer offices, no response yet.

We are going to rent one.

Steve R.,

Interesting proposition, sounds like you might get a new H2 of it!

We are going to just keep it simple and rent one from a company in L.A. It is more expensive that way, but keeps it legit for legal purposes.

Looks like I really stirred up a mess over at H2source. Oh well, I guess that is what these boards are for!

Cheers,
