Open Hood when Cable is broken Disco II

The issue started when I was trying to put a new cable. I was able to remove the old cable but not to put the new one correctly. Now the hood is closed and there is not cable attached to it....what do I do???? Or vice versa, pull sharply? As I'm sure you know, the release lever is dead center on the hood. Good luck, and I'll be interested in the outcome.
