I am preparing to replace the rear brake rotors on my 98 Disco I (NAS V8). I know that the wheel hub must be removed, and it is retained by a pair of large nuts and lock tab washer. As I have not actually pulled the axle shafts, I do not know the actual hub nut size.

Does the hub nut measure 2 1/16" size as per the Series vehicles? Or will I need to acquire a different size hubnut socket?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is the same. Good luck finding a socket that size. Any of the Land Rover parts web sites have them. I gave $15 for mine from Rovers North.

David,

I have that socket but I'm at work, so I can't confirm the size. Call Atlantic British 800 533-2210. They sell the socket, so I'm sure they can confirm the size.

I also think you could get the nuts out with a set of Channel Locks. They are not on very tight, just enough to preload the hub bearings.

Bill,

My guess is, since David here knew that the Series hub is a 2 1/16", and he said "Or will I need to acquire a different size", my guess is that he already has a well-used one sitting there....

David, welcome aboard!

Thanks for the info... I DON'T actually have a Series version of the socket [have a SIIa and used Channel Locks there :-) in the past ], but there are many local Series owners here in Ottawa (OVLR members). I am sure I could grovel and borrow one...

I may end up splurging the $15 or so from AB, RN or other such vendors in any case! Good addition to the toolbox.

Great to see this BBoard is "alive" with quick and pertinent information. I intend to browse all the "old" stuff as I see LOTS worth reading. And I'll try to share my thoughts where I can help others. (gee, sounds like the Boy Scouts, DYB DYB DYB)

See, I knew he did not have the socket. I can tell these things. I like toting my socket around. This way I can show people how big my nuts are compared to theirs.
