Any advise really appreciated!

We appraised one here at the dealership in similar sounding condition for about $3000. That's considering us paying our full shop rate to recon.

The bank repo'd a 1995 with 159,000 miles on it? Sounds like the previous owner wasn't exactly swimming in cash, so assume that nothing was put into this vehicle but gas. You could be looking at ending up with nothing more than a usable frame & body, and it sounds like even those are not in the best shape. I'd offer to pay the title transfer fees and maybe a hundred bucks or two & for their trouble + taxes. Case of good beer & box of cigars might help. Then spray paint it flat black, flame the hood & front qp's, cut the roof off, slap some used OME HD coils & shocks in, put some 33" MTs on, drive that 4.2 until it dies, drop a used 4.6 in it, and be the local hell on wheels. All in LWB style :-)

Listen to you Blue, sounds similiar to another idea I've heard of recently. Except BOBTAIL IT! It would be fun. You could use a Plasma, but that's too easy. Use a Sawzall with lots of dull blades for even greater entertainment!

I think I have a sickness!!!

LOL, I'd love to have the time, money, & energy to get my hands on a RR classic...

Pass on it . You will spend more on it than what its worth. Then when you decide to sell you will take a bath. Stay away.

Here's a question for you:

What the heck is a "bobtail"
I got the Rover for $2000. The trans was slipping because it was low on fluid. The only place that there's a problem on the outside is the rear window frame. The interior cleaned up and the only problem is the headliner is drooping and the center console wood is stained. The driver's side electric seat and both mirrors are in-op. It's getting inspected by Classic 4x4 in Connecticut on Thurs.

Any comments? Never had a RR, just my Disco.

Oh yeah, I found out that it was a voluntary repo because the guy declared bankruptsy and owed $7K on it. Drove good on the highway but the brake pedal was "hard"

Thanks Guys!

nicely done jeremy. you can part that sucker for the 2k in no time at all if you wanted to bail out on the investment.

bobtail is cutting the ass off the rangie. like a bobtail cat, makes for a sick departure angle.

A bobtailed range rover has a shortened rear section. That's were they get the name "bobtail." Look around on the net and you'll see one.

bobbing the rangie...

a concept I'll never understand. I believe it's a Jeep thing.

For really hard-core offroading, this is the major drawback to using a Rangie. If the arse is chopped so that the departure angle matches the approach angle the truck will just about go anywhere.

If you think it's a Jeep thing you probably also think that the truck is perfect just like it is:-)

Larry, this is very close to what I think.

Really hard-core offroading does not necessarily mean rock crawling (nearly the only kind of off-roading for which the departure angle matters). It may mean long trips to nowhere, for instance, and extra space doesn't hurt.

Aesthetically, a bobtailed SWB looks ugly; a bobtailed LWB would look unbelievably ugly. Even a pickup chopped out of a rangie looks better than a bobtail. If I wanted something not pretty but functional, I'd just get a jeep - oops, I already have two...
