Anyone heard of, or use these:
http://www.greenfilterusa.com/default.asp

I have used K&N for years now, but this may be due to the fact that I haven't seen an alternative. thoughts? They even have K&N x-reference...

Ciao,

There's been some talk here about risks of oil seeping out of K&N's and blowing down the intake onto the mass airflow sensor. I used a K&N in my Audi for a some time, tried a paper filter instead, and immediately noticed an increase in performance. The Green Filter does seem to use oiled cotton like the K&N, so the risk might be the same. Of course, I know you've used K&N for years, so it may not be a problem on your truck, Will.

Will,

I just did a search for a 99 Disco on there site and they don't even offer a filter for you. I also tried to cross reference from a K&N filer part # 33-2737 and they still did not offer anything.

So unless I missed the mark here, I don't think you have any worries about switching.

Thanks for input...I was, however, considering taking of the filter box and replacing with a 3" diameter K&N cone, which in my research also found the Green Filter.

I have used K&Ns for years - this includes other cars I have had. K&N has been on the Disco since January. After installing a Flowmaster, I figured switching to a cone filter for even more fuel economy, power, etc.

Thoughts on a cone?

I put a K&N in my 99 DII.
About three weeks of using it my check engine light went on. ...I was taking it to the dealer for something else and asked them to look into the light. They replaced the mass air flow, air filter, and whole casing and neatly placed my K&N in a bag in the back. They never said the K&N was at fault...they just removed it. It was not loaded with oil...very little in fact.
It didn't want to raise the question and have them tell me I voided some warentee...so I thanked them and left.
....anyone else running a K&N in a DII with or without probelms?

I would suggest after running the truck with a K&N after new install or cleaning and oiling clean the MAF with electrical contact cleaner. It has been suggested before on this board. But the contact cleaner will get rid of the oil residue on the MAF and have it funtion back to normal. Also try this before the dealer tries to sell you a new MAF.

Carl it is great if they replaced it with under warranty. I have heard of dealers complaing about the K&N and getting you to buy a new one.

Will,

have a K&N cone on both Rovers. the RR for about 6 and the 109 for about 3 years.

no problems with either. interesting enough it was recommended to me that I need to oil the filter more frequently than I had been. it was drying out probably due to the high Summer heat in OK.

not sure about added performance as the engines always have had the cone filter on them. have not had a MAF problem on either engine.

Jaime, what part number your K&N cone is, and how you got it on? I cant find FIPK kit for Disco on their site... (got FIPK on XTerra - what a HUGE difference it made)

Sergei,

not sure of the part number as the shop installed it. guessing it should be on the K&N site.

its held in place by a metal strap that tightens around the air intake in front of the MAF.

real easy to take on and off.

This is the part I was looking at:
K&N Cone Filter RE-0810 (3" diameter)

Does this sound right?

I've had a K&N filter in my 96 Disco for over 3 years now. In fact, I've cleaned and reoiled the filter a few times already and have had zero problems with it at all.

The AirForceOne setup (http://www.roveraccessories.com/airforceone.htm) "appears" to use a similar universal K&N cone as described above, but may have a shorter overall length. The K&N part mentioned above is 9" long x 6" base dia. x 4 5/8" top dia. x 3" flange dia.

Is the addition of a s.s. air pipe used in the AF-1 really adding anything to the setup? The cone is $40 and snaps right on vs. paying $240 for the AF-1 kit. The H.P. / M.P.G. gains appear to be of the same magnitude, along with the same disclaimers. No offense to Rover Accessories...just curious.

Also, I would think the addition of the s.s. pipe adds more hot air into the engine.

I went into my local Autozone to see if they had the cone filters. Instead, this guy pointed me to these cotton, colored cone filters with all the Fast n Furious Bling Bling stuff :-) ...$25... He said that since it was good enuf for his Honda S2000, it should be fine for the LR, with just as much air flow...

So what do you all think? Frankly, I wouldn't be suprised if it does, just cleaning it more often... Plus, he owns an S2000 and works at Autozone, so he must know his shizzit! :-)
