my service engine soon light came on this aft. and i was wondering if there is a way to connect a jumper to pull the code or does the dealer have to pull the code and clear it? also how can you reset a loose gas cap i think that may be the problem.

This check-engine light can be reset rather easy, as far as I recall it. I remember seing a description once, on how to rest the check-engine light. A few links in this regard:

John,
that's the one I really meant and now it's even on the discoweb site, I feel ashamed.

and by the way henk just so people don't get confused a service engine light can be reset but a check engine light needs a obd2 scanner to pull code and reset they are two different warning lights the service engine light doesn't mean you have a problem its programmed to come on after so many miles the check engine light is the one that means there is a problem

John, OK
indeed the lights do have a function, I'm fighting with a strange oil-pressure light this very moment. It's described in another thread on this page. The problem sometimes though seems to be that all those advanced check facilities deliver more problems themselves as they prevent. I am not talking about the oil-pressure light, that's needed. I've had quite a struggle with air-bag lights and abs-lights coming up, due to "computer problems" rather then there being a problem in the air-bag or abs.

Did I miss something? In my D2 - I don't see a "Check Engine Light", only a "Service Engine Soon" in amber. (Mine just popped on recently as well, but the vehicle seems to be running fine).

Would the Check Engine be the same as a Service Engine in red?
