Leaving Lynchburg sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening...either in caravan with two or three others from the area, or alone.

Gold DI "4THMTNS"

Anybody know about camping? Is the island accessible without a snorkel?! Somebody save us a spot! :-)

Red Disco 1 with VA plates "OFFROAD". I will be working the check-in friday afternoon.

If you plan on running anything but the bunny trails then MAKE SURE you have recovery points!

SSV, as of last weekend the island was unaccessable. Hopefully the water has receeded some. Also there is some excellent camping to be had off of the lake loop trail ... if the island is still closed thats where we will be setting up camp.

See ya'll there!

Eric,
Recovery points meaning...stock tow hooks, strap and a D shackle? I'm supposed to trail marshal on Saturday...that should be interesting on stock tires!!

I won't make it over until Friday evening, but I've sent a few guys from L'burg to scout out a camping spot for us. I really hope the island is open though!

See you then! COUNTING THE HOURS! :-)

Sus, those stock loops are actually intended as tie downs when shipping them via boat. Not really reccommended as a recovery point as they're not designed for shock loads.

Sus,

You could use JATE rings, or, if you can't get 'em soon enough, then use your receiver hitch.

Yeah, what Leslie said.

If you can't get Jate rings, then you won't have any front recovery points. You may be able to find a vendor that has some.

Leslie,
Are you coming up to MAR?!

I've been looking at receiver shackle brackets....may pick one up before tomorrow. The only other hooks I have on the front are on the brush guard.....

I need an online off-road accessory donation page...like Darby's. Only for me to get stuff for my truck! :-)

PS:

I'd suggest getting the receiver shackle; however, in a pinch, you can slip the loop of a tow-strap over a hitch-pin, and that'll do, for a straight-on pull.... it doesn't do so well for side-pulls, though, as the loop catches on the the sides of the receiver socket.

Jates are good for the front recovery points, I highly recommend them. But, they're easily put on if you don't have a brush-bar, they don't just slip on if you have a factory brush-bar on there.

Don't worry Greg...I helped put that thing on! I may not know much, but I'm a quick study!

I'm off to the local farm store and Wal-Mart to see what I can find. I won't be able to play too much this year b/c of my tires, but I don't want to be completely left out! :-) Must find recovery gear...must find recovery gear...it's my new mantra!

Thanks for the info guys.
Leslie, you HAVE to come! Greg, I can't wait to see your truck in living color!

Sus,
Greg is right, don't tug on the brush bar, but those small loops at the bottom are bolted directly to the frame. I used those for recovery once before I replaced my bumper by tying a rope to them.

Here's a photo of them with shackles on them.

Sus,

Usually 4x4 connection will be attending MAR. They have a lot of generic recovery gear (reciever shackle, winch stuff, tow straps, etc). Just bring money ;).

I really wish I could go to MAR, but I'm booked this weekend. Everyone else have fun. Take LOTS of pics!

Here are a few photos of the causeway and the far water crossing. The photos are bad after the resize, but in the water crossing one, the sign reads "Use 1st Gear".

Its time for those with the 2.5 Diesel to show us how its done!

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I had the best experience yesterday...went to Advance Auto Parts and asked the guy for a receiver shackle bracket...blah blah blah...and he had no idea what I was talking about. I was the ONLY woman in there and all the men in line were laughing at him b/c I KNEW what I was talking about! :-) Sometimes it's great being a girl!

Our local tractor supply place has the WARN receiver bracket for ~$39 I can either pick it up on my way out of town today or get one at MAR. Couldn't find Jate rings anywhere though!

Thom, my husband actually suggested the exact same thing, but I told him I didn't want to look ghetto! Hahahaha....I'll see what I can come up with!

Aaron, I tried to call you but had the wrong number. James and Cabel and Chet are leaving today at noon and wanted to know if we would all caravan, but alas, I have to work until 5. Sorry we will cross paths again!

See you all very soon....counting the hours 'till quitin' time!
