I just picked it up the other day and I love it. 97 Disco, 67K miles. Is there any things to look for with it that may be trouble down the road?

Pretty much everything!

Welcome to our nightmare....

I would start by changing all fluids, plugs, and serpentine belt if you are not sure when it was done last.

Congrats on the purchase! This topic has been discussed at length, I would suggest doing a search utilizing the functions on the top right of the screen. Other than that, change the oil every 3K or so, and stay on top of all suggested maint. You have a truck that will last a long time and provide endless enjoyment, treat it will, but always know that little things may/will creep up.

Clean the stepper motor right away, so you can avoid that post in a month or two...

Oh jeez, you make it sound like he better replace half his new vehicle before he even gets it out of the drive way.

Scott, I bought a '97 Disco back in May with 80k on the clock. Since then I had to replace the S-Belt (it was original) and the idle pulley. Other than that nothing other than normal stuff. Oil, filters and gas. (Of course I have upgraded to OME HD front and rear spring new shocks and new tires) All of which I didn't have to do, I wanted to do. It now has over 91k on the clock and climbing as a daily driver. It is just like any vehicle if you take care of it and fix things as they come up it sould be fine.

If in isn't broke don't fix it. Unless you fell the need to upgrade :-)

Scott, get you some Mean Green and spray, spray, spray the under side, the engine, the front hubs, power steering, you get the idea. Hose it off good. Don't get any on your paint. Wait a day or two and then look for the the leaks. Don't freak out unless you don't have any. No leaks means your disco is out of fluids.
Ones I found on my truck-
Power steering, low side - hose clamps right below the weird factory ones fixed it.
Swivel balls - had to replace seals, but I also repacked bearings and changed inner seals.
Even if you don't have a leak and if you have drains, drain and refill the swivel ball. You may want to use LR One Shot grease. It helps to keep them from leaking, but some people like to use oil. Not going to get into that whole thing of oil vs. grease. I used the one shot. Mine truck is a grocery getter.
The good news is the quality is sopposed to have went up from 97 on. I have a 96 and it has been good to me.
I'm with Joey on "If it isn't broke, don't tear it up."
If you need parts there are many great people that sell. I like Rovers North or EE, but find someone you like and stick with them. They are always ready to help with your fix.
I went from a Jeep to a Rover, never going back.

Bill

I too am a proud owner of a 97 Charleston Green SD model . I like it better than my previous 93 RRC LWB. I have close to 144k and it is like it has 44k. Next stop a P38 !!! Good Luck with yours and welcome to the club !

I have a 96 SE-7, just turned 92000 and only minor stuff has gone wrong, but now that I said that we will see what happens. The best part, for me anyway, was when I went 4 wheeling with my buds in their BMW x5, a Hummer, and one guy had a so called " bad ass" jeep, so I took grief for months about my rover...then I ended up pulling them all through the tough stuff. ROVERS ROCK!!
