Steven - the JATE rings mount to the frame in behind the brush bar. There's a tie down tube welded to the frame on both sides. Driver side has steering linkage attached to it but the opposite side should be empty. You can mount a ring there. If you have no skid plate, you may be able to mount the rings further up the frame behind the bumper. Just look for some empty holes on the frame near the bumper. I have a 98 D1 with a brush bar so I've got a ring mounted to the passenger side tie down tube. |

Alan, I know where you're talking about on the passenger side, but what about driver side? Should I just use the one? -Steven |

I just use the one. It's nice if you can have two JATE rings mounted and in similar places but if you can't then one is better than none. I haven't had any problems yet and as long as the driver for the recovery vehicle isn't a bonehead and decides to try and pull the frame out from underneath your truck, you should be fine. |

You can use both if you spread the JATE rings about an 1/8". I did this with my jack when I was still running the factory brushbar. Then you just use the same bumper bolts that are holding on the brushbar... works fine. |

Do not drill holes in frame (especially on the front horns)! All of the existing mounting holes for the front bumper are internally reinforced. The frame is designed to have a very specific strength characteristics (in the event of a crash). The front frame horns are amazing thin. If you drill new holes without reinforcig them the new holes will wallow out (or worse) as soon as you apply any significant force (like attempting to use them for as a recovery point). Thanks, Mike B. |
