I realize there are a lot of people missing and at MAR this weekend. Anyway, I replaced my transmission fluid this evening. I noticed oil all over the underneath of the truck close to the engine. I asked a shop tech to come over and have a look. He was certain that the hoses were leaking and throwing oil back toward the rest of the underneath. He suggested they get replaced. I'm not sure what the hoses are called or what type of oil they carry. If anyone has a clue as to what I'm talking about, please let me know. I'd like to hear what needs to be replaced, along with a rough cost estimate on replacement parts. THANKS! |

Kristopher, can you be more specific on the location of these hoses? and have you identified the fluid? Engine oil and transmission fluid are easily distinguishable. There are tranmission cooler lines that run from the transmission to the radiator, and they can leak. There are also oil cooler lines that run from the engine to the radiator and they can leak. I learned a valuable lesson last weekend. Completely cake your Rover in mud (at least the chassis) and the number of leaks diminishes. joe |

The oil is black, so I'm assuming that it is engine oil. The lines are right in front of the transmission pan. Not up in the engine bay but down low, hanging just above the transmission and exhaust pipes, running in the general direction of front to back. There were two of them (if I remember correctly) and it appears that they were only about a foot in length. (maybe a bit longer) I'll have to take another look. I was in a rush last night so I didn't pay much attention. does that help any? Thanks, again. |

Very typical where the lines change from rubber to metal. I think they run around $60 per, but I have heard of guys taking them off and going to a hydraulic shop and having the rubber parts replaced. Good luck. |
