I have read the tech sections and other LR chat sites, but want to hear from recent accounts...

I have OME HD spring w/ 2" lift, rear fenders trimmed (previous 245/75s). Streering wheel stops now adjusted for the Bridgestone Dueler A/T 265s. No rubbing encountered thus far.

I have read that there may be problems later w/ driveshaft (get CV joint type), possiblity of needing taller axle bump stops, new diff gears, etc.

Whereas others haven't stated any probs...I guess I want to hear about what else may be "required" vs. "nice to do/have but not needed".

Your thoughts are appreciated...

you're cool as you are. the tires wont cause the driveline vibs , the lift will. if you dont have them you probably wont get them anytime soon and if you do it wasn't the tires fault.

new gears will improve performance with better acceleration and trans will not shift up and down as much.

if you are happy with how things are now you have no worries.

sweeeet! :-) No bad vibes - only good ones after putting these tires on! lol.

I thought I did enuf research on this, but I guess I was secound guessing myself - which I do frequently.

Gears are a thought - I have F/R ARB airlockers -any issues there?

Thanx Rob!

Will,

Not to hijack the thread, but I don't like the ARBs. I say this only because I have had the pumps fail. I like my Detriot, it is always there for me.

You should not have any problems, just make certain to carry the right stuff to fix the ARB lines when you break one.

Will, I just put on 265/75/16 BFG A/T KO's.
I love them so far! Really changed the look and the handling of the truck. OME HD's and GBR rear driveshaft. No vibes and running great.

i guess i should clairify, vibrations are still possible from the tires if they are not balanced correctly or are caked with mud etc. but you should not have any driveline vibration because of the tires.

arb's are much superior to stock land rover differential carriers.

if you have not installed the ARB's yet and are leaning toward buying gears you will save money to have everything installed at once. rather than tearing into it two times.

http://www.offroaders.com/info/tech-corner/reading/mph-rpm.htm

For quick math, determine your act. speed with 265/75 vs stock 235/70:

Vact = new diameter/old diameter x mph
so,

31.65"/28.95" = 1.09 (9% off); thus:
Vact = 1.09 * 60mph = 65.6 mph

OK, so now, how does one adjust the speedo? Can this be a DIY, or do you need a shop to re-calibrate?

You need the speedo gear drive pinion (or however it´s called). You´ll find it at the t-box just behind where the speedo drive cable goes into the casing. You need the one from the 110". Pretty cheap. DIY job.

Do the 265/75's and the 4.10's and your reeeeaally close to being back to stock overall gearing, ie, the speedo and odometer are just innacurate as they were originally :-)

Cheers,

Other than GBR, what are other reasonable sources of aftermarket 4.10 gears?

Is that the same setup the Defender uses?

ashcroft avalible from ECR/

defender uses different gears in the Transfer case not the diffs

my disco speedo was closer to being accurate after i installed 235/85 tires than it was with stock.

get a GPS and see what your speed really is and evaluate from there. my range rover shows 7mph faster than i am going.

Not even close on my truck. 265/75's and 4.10's equal about a 10% overestimation of speed and distance - measured with a GPS.

If I am averaging 13 mpg, how could I figure out what my real mpg is supposed to be? I also have 265/75's BFG Mud terrains.

LOL, matt. it might be worse. just give up on the gas mileage thing and you'll be happier.

The 265/75s are almost as tall as the 235/85s and with either you'll notice a decrease in acceleration and more frequent shifting. It's the price you pay for the larger tires.

I'm currently running these tires on my stock D1. All I've done thus far is trim the rear fenders (generously) and the front bumper caps / air dam. The tires rub during extreme articulation and full steering lock left or right. Adjusting the steering stops would prevent the latter and I'm hoping that my soon to be installed OME HD, Bilsteins, and 1" spacers front and rear will cure the remaining tire rub during articulation.

My gas mileage went up with the switch from 235/70s to 265/75s...almost 35 miles per tank...not sure if this is from the decreased revolutions on the highway or actually going from almost bald tires to some with tread!
