I hated packing up. I needed more time! I realized as I was pulling out that for many of my friends I had two minutes here and there, not enough time! Not nearly enough time!

Regardless of duration, I must thank the following folks for sharing their time with me. Whether a couple of hours on the trail, a wave from the road, or a few rushed minutes in passing, normally through the open window of a car, these moments made the trip so worth the while.

LIKES
1)Nice Camping options
2)Lots of Nice Trucks
3)Great Bluegrass band at dinner on Saturday
4)Very helpful rally control staff
5)Nice and challenging trails
6) Great weather & Great Friends
DISLIKES
1)Trail GRIDLOCK
2)People who cannot follow trail directions even with arrows and signs leading the way
3)Trail Gridlock

Yes, MAR was great! It was my first time there. Enjoyed meeting a few Dweb people but wanted to meet more. Did get to meet Ray Gerber and Steve (Sillybus) and tried to catch Paul Morgan a few times but only realized it was him after he passed me everytime because someone wrote PIG on his back window. Anyway, Paul you have a sweet looking rig! Maybe next time or at SAE I will get a chance to meet you.

The scariest event was sliding down the hill climb at night out of control after almost making it the entire way up. Did conquer it the next day though. Just did not get up enough momentum and my CDL disengaged while going up as well.

The funniest event was getting a ticket from the rent-a-cop, now policeman, Richard Jewell, who found the Centennial Olympic Park bomb. I got the ticket on my way to MAR in Pendergrass, GA. We did not know who he was until we asked him if we could get a picture with him since he just gave us a ticket and he HAD to tell us who he was.

Another great event was my brother being with me who had never been off-roading or driven my Land Rover and he got third in the RTV event. That is he got third among the Discos. I am afraid to ask how many Discos were in the event. I am thinking only about three.

Wish I would have known Leslie Bright was there. Always enjoy reading his posts. For that matter, I wanted to meet all Discoweb people there so I could put a face with a name and thank them for any advice they might have given me in the past via Discoweb and email.

I camped in the main field with the guy with the Series truck that is painted yellow with black stripes.

Robb,
Its good to hear you got back to GA safely. I know I was hurting last night just getting back to Norfolk.

That's pretty cool about Jewell. I'm amazed that you can get a ticket in a Disco for speeding :-)

Dan-you have an amazing memory, I met a ton of people and can't remember a damn thing except we camped near Robb and a whole bunch of the SOLAROS crew and they were cool, as were the ROXS guys, and pretty much everyone else-I just can't keep names straight to save my life.

About the RTV thing... you may be right about the 3 Discos, I know the girls in the white DI looked like they did really well, and another blue one did ok. Other than that it was mostly Defenders and a few Series II's and III's. I have to hand it to the lady driving the ex MOD 109 w/no power steering. Its kinda tough when the Series I trucks had like a foot and a half on each side going through!

Lol, I wasn't hiding, honest! I spent a large part of Saturday around the TRG booth, looking for drill&bits for folks to use, or chasing down Jeff to kidnap his spare brake-lines for folks, or asking people if they had a spare tow-bar so Jude could get his Series back to Roanoke... so on and so forth...

Dan, it's always a pleasure... just wish it was more often than twice a year the I ran into you...

Robb and Ray, I'll meet y'all eventually... :-)

Whew, what a weekend. 1251 miles round trip in a white D90 ST. 11.5 hours yesterday alone.

Had a blast except for the dude and his son who camped 3 inches from my tent (they had at least 50 yards of level ground to set up and chose right on my doorstep) and snored like nothing I have ever heard before. Even though I lacked sleep (thanks again fellas) I had a blast and can't wait for next year!!

See y'all at SAE in November!!!

Ray, I concur with the memory thing. I don't remember half the people I met. Most people came up to me because of the "Jeep Thing" stickers so that helped. Robb mentioned above that he met me. I hope I wasn't abrasive because I don't remember. LOL.

Ron - I hope that wasn't my son and I on your doorstep. If so, I apologize.

I know it is probably too much to ask of the family, but Charles Jenkins is putting on a small do in Mortimer SW of Blowing Rock on Oct 25.

Tempted, huh? Are ya, huh? huh?

Steve,

I met you when you got there and were looking for Paul Morgan. You were not abrasive. There was a guy with me, Jeffrey, who took a look at your CDL. We told you how to get to the other field where people were camping and you took off to go there to look for Paul.

And no, you were not the one who snored by Ron and our group.

Does anyone remember who made the snorkle that was on that Silver Freelander? The guy was a Trail Marshall, his wife was over the kids games, he was like a fed. Law Enforcement Officer or something, and his D1 had the samething on it. I had never seen one like that, and wanted to look into it a little more to see if they were worth a shit. It did look good I thought.

Robb - Now I remember! Thanks by the way, I did manage by lunchtime to get the CDL straight.

Will - I saw that snorkle, that was slick. It was the most low profile snorkle I've seen yet. Don't remember who makes it but I am curious as well.

Well, I didn't meet half of the people I wanted to, and I didn't get to run as many trails as I had hoped...but we had an excellent time. Good food, good weather (well, i had numb toes on Sat morning!), and lots of Rovers in sight! Ron, we also had some LOUD snorers near us, but it became a joke amongst the campfire...didn't get as much sleep as I had hoped. I crashed Sunday night when we arrived home!

To anyone I missed seeing, hope to see you sometime soon.

Pictures to follow. Didn't get as muddy as I wanted, but I managed to keep the truck intact as well! Priorities.... :-)

Dan,

What is it about OCtober 25th? I already have 3 other prior engagements on that day, two of which I'm going to have to figure out a way to tactfully decline since I still haven't figured out that being-in-more-than-one-place-at-a-time thing, then I've had three other things come up on that date, too. LOL!!!

I'll keep that in mind, though, and if everything else blows up and become non-issues, then I'll see if I can make it over... I'm not counting on it, but, it would be nice to make it...

L8R,

-L

Leslie,
All the details are on the calendar at the link above. Click on Richlands Gap in the October section. If you can make it great.

Have fun, Dan

Steve, thanks for that link. I've been searcing Google on and off for several months now looking for that snorkel. Saw it somewhere on the web last year and was never able to find it again. Of course, I was typing in "Ricco Silva".

Dan, it was a pleasure to meet you as well, and was nice to meet alot of you in person. I just never seem to have enough time to socialize at these things. I'm always drawn to the trails. Alot of grid lock, but like someone else said...What do you expect with 300+ vehicles there.

Anyway, all-in-all, it was a great time.

If you want a Roca Silva snorkel- I know Diego Roca, the guy who makes them. The shipping from Spain is outrageous, but if you get several people together and order them- it's not bad split 3 or 4 ways.
Installation was easy- the quality of the fiberglass is great as well but the prices are much higher than ARB etc. (last time I checked, about $450) No wind noise though.
I have pics of the ductwork etc that the snorkel used if anyone is interested in more info. I will pass them along at my cost plus shipping, but we need at least 3 to make it worth it.

Greg - Sorry I didn't get to hook up with you... I was camped right between you and the porta-johns.

I'd like to see all the pics you can round up. Inside, outside and up close, even inside the snorkel if you have them.
