Hmmm...

Has a Range Rover derived suspension system and a ladder frame with a Jag V8. It's still fugly but if the New RR performed well off-road they might just make the 05 Disco work. I really don't like the idea of a ford V6 in the engine compartment they should really stick to a rover V8 though. But I guess the only constant is change.

This concludes my current statement

Hmmm..... I'm just the opposite, if they switched to the jag V6 but kept the solid axles, I'd be happier. Oh, and stuck w/ the looks of the current, not the new Honda-Element look.....

FWIW....

I want two things: better offroad performance and a diesel option. If the new Discovery has those, I could ignore its looks.

Phillip,

I've seen many racecars lift the front inside on the track during testing. Even in the magazines testing Lotuses and the like push them to lifting a wheel. That just means it can be pushed, and that's a good thing.

It's a sign of progressive handeling limits.

Cheers,

Kennith

PS: Excited, but still sketchy about the whole deal. :-)

Autoweek got it wrong... the current disco is 217hp, not 185hp. That was the 4.0 rate wasn't it?

But it's still UUUUGLY. And I don't care how it does in mud and ice and puddles - I want to be able to off road AND like the looks.

I agree. If that Element-looking thing really is the new Disco, I think I'll be finding myself a new job for 2005.

Guys,
Let's hold judgement until the thing is actually produced! I know there are a lot of people who are not fans of the direction that LR is going (albeit them being "pushed" by Ford), but it doesn't mean that they still won't create the most capable off-road vehicles around. I know we don't all like "gadgets", but fully adjustable independent air suspension that allows adjustable ride heights for the highway, street, and trail is something I would love to have. Amd more engine options, who could complain with that! Just give 'em a chance, that's all I ask!

p.s. also, the 4.0 is a derivation of a 3.5 litre Buick motor, nothing "Rover" about that Robert

I can't wait to ask the salesguide:

OK guys....my first opinion is one of an outsider who knows little of Rovers and the "heritage" that goes along with them. So when I initially see the specs, I think "WOW, a truck with adjustable bags all the way around allowing me to go from highway crusing to offroading in just a push of the button, a rim/tire/engine package that speaks of performance, and a unique brand name like Land Rover!" Now, after owning my truck for 6 months and submersing myself in the culture, I understand how you guys feel in that it's not like the current Disco platform, the truck snubs its nose at solid axles, lockers, and 16" tires with meaty BFG's, not to mention a true two tier roof line amongst many other things. I honestly think the truck looks "OK", though if I was in the market for this type of vehicle now, I would wait for the baby RR sport to come out. This is truly not the truck we know and love, but it is still "nice", it will be competent off road [it needs a factory bead lock package;)], and it will help save Land Rover. So, I am ok with it as long as they bring the D90 back (had to save myself somehow).
Luke

p.s. my bags have never left me stranded and actually have saved my rear bumper a few times...no leaks yet
