Hi I am ready to buy my first auxillary lights for our 95 Disco with a non airbag ARB winch bumper. I plan to add the Warn XD 9000 as funds allow, but want to add lights sooner than that. Will Hella 4000s fit, or do I have to stick with a smaller light, like the 500s to allow room for the winch control box. Thanks for you time This is a great forum Alden |

I have 500's on my ARB and they fit fine (as you know). The reason I went with this light, as opposed to the 1000 or 4000 was exactly for clearence issues. Not sure if it's an urban legend, but I received informal feedback that the larger lights wouldn't fit due to the tabs being placed to close to the vertical side bars. If you are good with metal, you could always cut the tabs and mount them closer together. Hope this helps somewhat, though I doubt it will. -Luke |

Luke Thanks. Actually, after reading your post and measuring, duh, I'm sure you are exactly right. The tabs are not only too close to the uprights for any larger light, there is not enough vertical clearance for anything else. I'm sure I'll be happy with the 500s though. They look great on your profile picture, by the way. Thanks Alden |

Luke is right, the 4K's won't fit without modification of the bumper. If you do decide to cut, it will look like the pics in my gallery. (Not the latest with the KVT bumber, but in the Moab pics farther down.) - Axel

Alden, No problem regarding the lights, I hope you enjoy the 500's! One thing that can be done to compensate for the smaller light size is throwing in a 100Watt H3 bulb, something I did with mine and greatly increased the lights performance. I am fairly certain though, that putting a bulb like this in is not the greatest for the housing, but hasn't hurt so far in my occasional use. Enjoy! -Luke |

Oh yeah, the 100watt bulb isn't legal either, though neither is running the 500 "spots" on the street. If you are picking up the "fog" pattern, I have no experience there so I can't really help you. -Luke |

I managed to fit the 4000's on my non airbag arb by simply drilling holes further forward on the tab. It is a tight fit but they will go. The pics in my gallery will give you an idea of how they look. Daniel Rork |

YMMV, but fogs are typically legal as long as you don't have a total of more than four lights at or below bumper height on at a time. This means no rack lights or "takedown" lights mounted to the rear view mirrors! Depends on the state -- I'd recommend calling the local PD (not during a busy time, and ask to speak with a Sergeant or Lieutenant so you start with someone in charge) and respectfully asking what the law is. Thanks Guys, every one of you. I'll probably go with the ease of the 500's. From what I read, the harness that comes with them works well, but is there a way to use that harness with a factory fog switch, or do I have to make up a harness and still use relays as posted in the tech section. I've done some wiring of other cars, but relay talk tends to leave me scratching my head. Thanks Alden |

Uhhh...these work... redrilled the holes forward about an inch and added third tab... This is an airbag ARB...are the verticle supports different than the non-aribag version? |
