The truck is 1995 Discovery 3.9 with 60K The turck has full power and the truck starts and runs smoothly but only for a mintue and the pump cuts out and stalls. The truck then doesn't start - the fuel pump won't come on or engage at this point. Wait some - The truck starts, pumps on and runs smoothly for only a minute and stalls. Won't start again. etc etc.............. MOST RECENT - JUMPED FUEL PUMP - Started right up and ran once again one mintue and the pump again jumped turned off and the truck died! HELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP! New Battery New Alternator Replaced fuel pump - no change Replaced fuel filter - no change Checked and swapped out relays - no chnage

Robbyn, When the fuel pump dies, check to make sure that you still have power going to it from the jumper wire. Where did you get the 12 volts from? Have you tried to bench test the pump to make sure that it is not bad? Make sure that you have gas to pump through it and a place for it to go. (don't want to read about you burning up your home, it is the fumes that get you). Not sure on this, but does the Disco I have a pre filter or screen that could be clogged? I haven't had to tear into mine yet.

Ok, I did a little research, the way I would test this is to get some extra fuel line. attach to the fuel pump so that the line come out the back of the vehicle and into a large fuel container. then I would turn on the Hot jump wire to the fuel pump and see how long the pump runs. As long as you are getting a good known hot and a good known ground to the fuel pump it should continue to pump fuel until you shut the switch off. If for some reason it does not stay running. Check your hot wire and check for a good ground. If these check good, then there is something wrong with the pump itself or your vent line is completely clogged. At this point I would try taking the fuel cap off and see if the pump will run. Let us know what happens. |

Bench test on the pump it works fine - The pump in the car stays powered with the jump wire but the engine stops. Don't believe it is in the fuel pump or wiring there to??? Something is shutting the engine off - I am trying to make arrangements to get it in to Rover but they are 60 miles away... and I wanted to exhust all my options before having to buy and pay for all dealer parts! |
