As a former Californian, I am not at all surprised that Arnold took the recall in a sweep. What does everyone think about the election now that it's over, and how do you think he will fare in office?

In my opinion, Davis really made some bad decisions during the "energy crises" a couple years back. Billions of dollars that could have re-made the failing schools went into half-baked energy contracts.

The primary reason I moved out of the state was education - I paid four-thousand a year in property taxes and had to put the kids in private school, while the city we lived in boasted the highest crime rate in the state.

So, will Arnold make it happen in the next two years?

Well,

I don't expect him to go down in the annals of history as a great governor, but, he's got to be an improvement..... they have nowhere to go but up.

IMHO, FWIW.....

If we can get the slack jobs up in Sacramento to pull their heads out of the sand and WORK with Arnold we’ll be OK. Problem is all those boys and girls have had it too good for so long they’re going to resist any change.
I personally think it’s great to finally have a Republican w/ Democratic social values.

People forget that Gray Davis had a long career in government. He's also a money-obsessed fundraising machine, of course, but he's a professional administrator nonetheless. I've worked in government (not the bloated state system, fortunately) long enough to know that the structure of our state agencies is unbelievably complex.

State government in California is far too elaborate, I think, for anyone without experience in public administration to comprehend. Governor Schwarzenegger will be effective as a charismatic figurehead for Republican interests, but not as an administrator.
