A few months ago, I was in the market for a new vehicle and happened to stop in our local LR dealership.
After pricing out a few '02's, I was informed that the dealership was in the process of bidding on a few "Fleet Vehicles" that have never been titled and that were "only driven by LR executives"and "get traded in every year for new models" . I would be able to get my hands on a '01 with under 10K miles for thousands less than the sticker on a new one.
I thought about it for a few days and stopped back at the dealer when they got their shipment of these vehicles.
To make a long story short, I ended up with a '01 D2 SD with under 8K miles to which they added a CD Changer for under 28K.
My question is this:
I contacted LRNA a few weeks later to get the history on the vehicle and was told "The vehicle was not auctioned by Land Rover North America, Inc., therefore we do not have information on the auction company."
Secondly, I checked the vehicle history on CARFAX and it came back as "Registered as rental vehicle (major car rental company)" in Shawnee Mission, KS

Was I misled by the dealer? Should I be concerned? I have driven the vehicle for a few months now and have had no problems.
I appreciate the feedback.

Anon,

I bought one of those too, but not from a dealership, from the actual rental company. Depending on who the comapny was you may have a prepaid service contract which covers all the maintenance on the vehicle up to certain mileage. Quite frankly, unless you feel you were cheated, it really isnt an issue, I have had no problems worth mentioning.

I purchased mine, a 2000 SD with under 7K for 26K.

My vehicle was previously owned by Enterprise. It is a '00 w/ the leather package which included the HK upgraded stereo. I purchased it in '00 w/ 13K miles for $29,500 at auction in Atlanta.

However, I'm not sure about it not being titled. If yours was owned by a rental company, it would have been titled in their name. That's the only issue I see. It seems that your dealer may have been less than honest with you.

I purchased one that was LEASED by Enterprise. The title transfer and Carfax shows that the title never left LRNA.

FWIW, my understanding of my purchase was that LRNA leased these vehicles to Enterprise, who then returned them to LRNA after their tour of duty, where they were then auctioned off to various dealers for purchase. The auction company invoice and inspection sheet was still in the glovebox of my Disco when I took delivery.

If your Disco was leased by a rental car company, then the title should have always been LRNA's.

I have also not had a single problem with my 2001 Disco II

maybe only LR execs rented these D2's when their own private Rovers were laid up in the shop....

which was quite often blue..:) for real though, a dealer is required to disclose if a vehicle is a previous "rental" car. Often though, those SDs go thru LRNA and the dealer, or your salesman at least, may not have known that it was a previous rental car. All Disco "rentals" are leased to the rental company on a "buy-back" basis. meaning that LRNA buys the trucks back at a specific mileage and then sells them to LR dealers, as stated above. Unless you have an issue with the vehicle itself i wouldnt be to concerned, as you got a decent deal on the truck. my .02

My 2001 DII SD (BLUE!) was an Enterprise rental model. Service was prepaid (yeah!). I've been happy with it. Had 6k on it and I paid 25k.
